it fit right in with the Benz's, BMW's, etc! fun to get out and smack the sh*t out of the ball today.. hitting that draw with the driver is really starting come around...


decided this morn that once the drawers/doors are in, and the hanging underbody boxes are done, I'm gonna add a lower 1/8" skin to the underside to keep road grime out of all the nooks and crannies..

It would have been hysterical to pull into the country club in Mutt...... Then open up those side drawers to pull esch of your clubs from custom fitted foam compartments!

these things are built like Snappy KRL drawers, brick sh*thouse....... each unit weighs like 50 lb's...



my only issue at this point is the whole top being open, and no dividers...

Just to make your life hard and to keep me entertained...... Some sort of roll-top desk aluminum thing on top of those drawers would be sick.

as I mentioned, that's why I'm gonna put a full sheet of 1/8" welded to the top of the drawer assemblies... but that's more to keep stuff in...


the sheeting on the bottom was something I always knew I would do, but it's more to keep the mud/schtuff out of the nooks/crannies of the drawer mounting/spacing.. you'll see as I begin to do the drawers/doors, what I'm talking about... it's really kind of a "final touch" to the whole tubebed deal...

yeah, I'm VERY inclined to just run new factory type ones..... for as custom as the rig is, I really like the look of those.. I don't particurally have an issue with the newer smoke LED type ones, I just really like the look of the factory ones..

it's on the list.. when I get a spare $hundy for the lights, and a weekend of nothing better to do than strip the roof, prime/paint, it'll be done... but it is about #9 or 14 on the priority list right now...

so, Mutt get's a f*ckton of attention on the road, thumbs ups at lights, etc... I''ve noticed, most of the more "normal" towrigg'y, hauler/flatbeddy/dually type guys go out of their way to wave, give props, etc...


but I have noticed many of the jacked up, new rig, moto-metal'd (coughhomogheycough), dizzle stacked, 29" rim type guys, have this uncontrollable urge to rev their motors when driving by me, etc? wtf, is that?

is it props, or somehow calling me out? burnout



guess my windshield banner strikes a poignant chord...

On the other side of the build spectrum, I too have noticed that I get nods and thumbs up from the classic car crowd. I am a bit happy that they are now accepting of trucks and a 1974 at that! I think I am probably on that bleeding edge of the "cutoff point" of "classic". Probably 1974 or there abouts marks the end of the classic american cars?

I am happy to see that the second Gens are getting props. I had a 45 minute conversation at a gas station with a guy who walked up and said "My God! I have never seen one of these restored!"

It's a nice feeling to cruise around in something unique even if it is completely stock, and in your case completely custom.
I definitely plan to make some shows this summer as a driver class....I also noticed that where there are classic cars...there are women

no doubt, the positive response FAR outweighs any negative.... from trucks, and just average drivers..

I just wonder about the response of the above mentioned rigs...

I'm a stoopid old hotrodder, not a Fast and Furious young gun, so I don't get their take on it, whether that reaction is pos, or neg.....

if it is the windshield banner, than I AM proud to offend the living pee out of them....

I'm not young but I get this same reaction with my Blazer and I take it as a compliment . I'm kind of glass half full kind of guy though. However, the guys in the rice burners with the whiney mufflers act like *sses and they make me want to punch them.

actually, surprisingly, I really haven't had any fartcan encounters yet.... I'll report back on that one...

I've been kinda hoping it was more a prop thing, just kinda struck me as odd.... honk the horn, thumbs up, etc, I get, the rev you're motor thing kinda seemed weird..

but it has been brought up in conversation many times so far by people wanting to talk about the rig.... about how fitting, and right, it is....

I have seen his other large hood/roof ones, and I'd be curious to see what he could come up with for the evil cigar puffing mallard..


that said.... for as whacked as this sounds, it may be a bit much for my tastes.. I know right?!!??? even tho only the black choppers following me would see it, I think it might be a bit "busy"...

It's gonna need to be a very large diameter shaft. And those can be spendy. I know Mutt is not for off roading per say but this might be a case where a single large shaft might be a disadvantage.

I'm just not a fan of that carrier bearing setup... I put a new one in like 2 yr's ago,

and the rubber seems to have a fair amount of slop now... if you grab the yoke, it gives a fair amount of shake..

I think it's giving me a bit of vibe under load at like 40 to 50 mph... I'd almost like to eliminate the rubber and go to some sort of a solid pillow block kinda deal or something....
