Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I've been lurking for ages on here and stop in to see you've gone off and added even more awesomeness to the lighting aspect of this truck...my quote in your sig holds true even more so now sir, yet another punch in the face of "pure badarse". Well done!

I'm soooooo :angry1: :angry1: :angry1: :angry1: :angry1:

in all the installing/removing of my dashpad, it's now got a crack in it..... i'll live with it, but, f*ck me....

Can you put a single layer of fiberglass over the whole thing and just paint it?

That's kind of what I was thinking about doing with one of mine.

f*ck that.. the rest looks mint.. i'll live with it til i find another to dye or an aftermarket that is actually good...

to be honest, when i see that stuff, the body guy in me knows how hack it is.. all these guys grinding cracks and putting bondo in em.... it may hold up, but it shouldn't, and prolly wont in a couple yrs of sun, etc.. .. 2 dissimilar materials, etc.. that's a seriously shitty bond, soft vinyl/foam with hard glass/bondo on top... obviously guys with a ton of cracks, etc have little choice...

I'm pissed just thinking about it....

anyway, eyes are done... a dainty glue in... let it set up, than poured enough fiberglass resin in his butt, to fill the head and completely encase the wiring... hope they last a long time.. ;)

touched up the white... i'll go back in and redo the bloodshot lines tomorrow maybe... oh, I'm gonna run them to the turn signal/park lights.. on with parks, and flash left/right with the blinkers...

what do you guys think of the 5.9? i think it adds a bit of funnay to the interior... i was thinking of putting 359 ones on my fenders to fug with people..

Think you misunderstood what I was getting at... But that's cool, carry on.

The red eyes are gonna be sweet.
I used to love the Mack dogs you could get with light up eyes.

i appreciate the suggestion.. i just don't wanna go down that road... i don't even wanna try and wrap it or anything... i just wanna puke..

huh, i didn't know they did those Macks with lights.. cool.. i had a plain ones yrs ago when i used to restore them....

I used to see the Mack ones in truck stops all over... Only ever seen a few actually on trucks though.
It was in the 80's.

that's when i was doing mixers, dumps, etc.... them Macks where friggin rotbox nightmares... all the sheetmetal work was so hard on them.. whereas an Autocar, I could have all the cab sheetmetal cut off and prepped for new in a day.. Macks had all that unibody/curvy stuff with a million spotwelds, it would take a week.......

hmmm, i apparently never scanned any of the Macks I did..

That sucks!

I remember my K5 had a prefect dash pad, until I painted it because I wanted gray instead of brown interior. I always figured the paint dried it out.

it was SEM colorcoated black.. it was the original maroon one in the truck... i did that when i first got it... it's definitely dry, you can tell from the underside... I'm never surprised at that in these 30 to 40 yr old rigs.. i was amazed when it showed with no cracks... i would have thought living in the AZ area would have destroyed it.. rot-free stuff, but i've always heard interiors go to chit out there...

currently working on cutting the hole in the alum for the switches... also starting final shaping on the bezel now that all the pieces are glassed up....

Fill it. Wrap it. And then move on. You'll put a nice new one on and that'll crack too. It's inevitable.
There has got to be a new solution to this age old problem.

My car can drive me to work, and we can’t make a decent fitting dash for a square body that doesn’t crack? Wtf.

My 91 survived crack free for so long when it was getting used all the time. Finally cracked 5 yrs or so ago. I was SO upset.

i hadn't really stayed up on aftermarket replacement stuff as, ya know, I tend to be a bit custom ;) but my understanding is in recent yrs there are some good products coming out, in addition to the cr2p ya get off LMC... I've read those dashes, door panels and such from USA1 are way way better quality than the standard Taiwan junk everyone is used to... if you're willing to pony up... they even make those heavier stamping fenders these days iirc.

I'll pencil it in at priority #86... ;) heck, I'll be long dead by the time a new one would crack... :doah: :haha:

Pretty sure the Mack's with light up eyes were an aftermarket item.

Or at least at one time you could buy them from a truck stop.

I have bought some USA1 stuff for my stepside. It's good stuff. Way better then the standard Chinese junk.
