Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

how did you prep the converter?

If I remember correctly, I think I hand sanded it with 220...I was worried that I would sand through the converter so I took it easy on it...

wasn't sure if you tried to wet on wet it..... I'd go 180 minimum... but sand it and see how it feathers...

That spot's easy enough to deal with....I was really just wondering if I should change anything as I prep the bed floor?

Got a question for you that's like one of those Chinese magic tricks....

How did they get the bolts in the bottom inside of the B Pillar tightened down?
On the old quarter I got to them by peeling back the top of the rail above them, but how do you get them back in with a new panel? :dunno:

Seemingly, you would have to cut a small "window" in the top of the rail large enough for the socket to go through....

i know not which bolts you speak of......

There is a square tab on the quarter that bolts into these holes inside the B Pillar...when you put the quarter into place, you cannot get in there...

up from the bottom or down from the top?

down from the top...the holes on bottom are female and threaded...
this has me stumped...hey..who was it that changed their quarters on a 1973? NorCal???

Looks like somebody already tried it on my passenger side quarter...looks like you peel back that rail flap, tighten the bolts and then bend it back down and do more body work to fix it....

Chief - Were did you get your spot weld cutters from? What size are you using? I'm about to remove some sheet metal from my K5.

I bought one from Eastwood for $30, and I bought 4 from Harbor Freight for $3.99 each....honestly...the Harbor freight spot weld bits stayed sharp just as long and I just toss those when I am done.
The thinner sheet metal was a piece of cake...the bed floor ate those bits quick...

Here is what 6 hours today got me....just part of the way to getting the bed prepped:

Looking good Chief. I have some panels and more on the way coming for the K5 I'm working on. I'm looking forward to getting started.

Worked my tail off today...got the bed in primer, got the insides of the B Pillars in Primer and painted Black.

Now I need to lightly sand the primer see if I need to spot it and then it's on with the Quarter Panels....I think?
