Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

also, does the head seal marry up with the door seal somehow? if so, I may need to wait till I get it before installing the door seals with glue

They fit together with the windshield header seal, the header seal fits inside the door seal at the top.

I had to cut mine to fit, I think they were LMC and are fine. Most of that stuff is made in india regardless of where you buy it. My header seal is from LMC and the first one they sent me was too long, sent another no questions asked and was fine. This was about 5 years or so ago and they had some fitment issues then, I don't know about now.

I only used glue where needed. The backside at the top is only an issue when the top is off. If you don't need glue don't use it.

NOS stuff is out there but its gold plate price.

Classic Parts of America seems to have decent rubber. That's were I've been getting mine. I didn't use glue either and they hold well. If they start falling out chrimp down on it to get it tighter.

How are you going to paint the top? What products are you going to use?

Went to Harbor Freight and found these hooks that will handle I think 100 LBS each.

Not the ideal setup, but I will revisit that when I paint the top.

Well...I quickly drove it home at lunch. Couple things...the bumper and valances were in the back wrapped up and when I got to 60 Mph the wind gusted and blew everything almost out of the truck...when it came back down it landed in different postions. I thought it was ok but when I got home the front valance got chipped up on the bumper edge.

Also, the guy that was following me to give me a ride back to work said he saw some black smoke which I attributed to all the body shop dust...
but his car was covered in splotches that he says was coming from my truck...they look like water except that had the faintest sheen to them...they had no color...even on a white paper towel....I am guessing that it was blowing out a bunch of condensation???

but the faintest oily like sheen has me worried...:dunno:

auto smoke

What is the diagnosis on smoke.

I was told Black smoke = oil

White smoke = gas

what color is coolant leaking into the engine ?

I have a drippy right injector and was told that this is likely the reason for the periodic, infrequent popping and then white smoke coming out of my exhaust.

there's no black smoke...there was black soot when driving out of paint shop it stopped after couple minutes

It's likely just condensation from the exhaust washing a bit of carbon and rust out of the pipes. Pretty common for something that isn't being driven regularly.

Is the bumper itself gonna cover the chip on the valance?

BTW, where are the freakin pics? Better put a double rush on posting something up...or I fear a lynch mob might form. :haha:

ITs certainly nothing wrong with the engine, but might be an oil leak.

Moisture in the tailpipes along with soot in the tailpipes coming out.
Black smoke, how much and when? Prolly no big deal. How many miles on engine.

I'm hoping it's the lower edge that the bumper covers...I felt like kid who just dropped his ice cream out of his cone...

I'll post some pics soon...

Remember I took the engine apart and put all new seals in it...it is a practically new crate engine with very few miles on it and by very few I mean probably less than 5000

Not even broken in yet, don't sweat it.

My exhaust condensates also, spits on whatever is next to it.

As long as its not white smoke(coolant)

Paint shop can fix that chip easy if needed.

Found the leak...it appears to be my rear differential...there is a small puddle under it. I thought that fluid was heavy like wheel grease

What goes in there?

Should just be gl-5 gear oil. If you have a limited slip get the gm additive. Its thick but not that thick. 85-90w or so.
