the rig is all empty except the composite rear panels laying in the bed... tomorrow, I start cleaning/prepping it...

hot soapy scrubs... buff here and there... gonna prime any remaining raw steel, which is very little.... clean the whole rig as good as possible... take the soft top off to really clean and detail it.. store that in the parts room, and shrink the rig like I did Mutt...

so, here comes the hate...

the rig is going outside for temp storage... :o

it's gonna go in the same back hole next to the house Mutt sat in... there's no reason not too..... :deal:

it'll take 45 minutes or so, of fenagling with Jim, my neighbor, and some plywood... but it's kind of absurd for me to be taking valuable project/shop space for basically a giant storage cabinet at this point that I can't move... everything is stoopidly coated/protected and it will be fine till I get back to it...

I'm actually kind of stoked on this... doing a ton of shifting of stuff around between outside in my parts pile, the parts room upstairs, the attic and LAB™.... it also reminded me that I really need to do a couple scrap runs this spring.... AND SELL some MUTHAFUGGIN schtuff.... anyone need a minty tan back seat from a 78 K5???????? :haha: :deal:

thinking it could really give me a motivating, killa work environment for the rest of this years endeavors... mainly Mutt's fuel tank..... make The LAB™, Lab-like....

this will also, inadvertently, and for the first time in my friggin life... :haha: have an indoor bay to park my daily on the overnight if I want... or at least work on...

Mutt don't fit in the doorway, and the right bay is too short. still working on LAB™ layout/storage/tool positioning, etc, but I should be easily able to pull the fUrd in on the left if I want I'm thinking for rainy day work, snow, etc...... and have a nice big area for my equipment and plowing thru projects....

2 car garage, and I got 4 rigs gonna be outside... ;)

Hows Kai doing? Don't hear much about him lately.

can I trade? ;)

he is awesome... no issues, living a great life.. turned 6 at x-mas... he gets a little bummed this time of yr cuz we aren't out in the yard playing ball, but a warm couch and "biscuits" make him content... ;)

todays agenda... mount casters to my failed "custom dodge seat into the 2wd GMC" frame I made... so i can at least move the damn things around the LAB™ easier, mobile couch.. another for the summer sale list... it'd be cool if I had a big shop and some friends... ;)

and clean the K5 for shrink... gonna hot wash/scrub it right in that bay... it's pretty hammered, gonna take multiple scrubby douches..

Fazio run will definitely be next week sometime... want this project done first, as Jim goes back on the road in a wk, maybe 2... and i want to get this done when he's around...

That thing is damn sexy

one day... it was nice to clean it today.... made me happy.. and reminds me (smacks in the back of the head) , that I NEED to finish this damn rig at some point...... too much effort/art to ignore...

*voices in head*

" get thru Mutt, get thru Mutt....." " Buy a lottery ticket, buy a lottery ticket! "

:haha:

What does it cost in materials?

for me? free...

to do that took a piece about 15' x 24'... which is miniscule $$$-wise.. probably $10 to $20? problem is, ya need to buy a roll..

let's put it this way, a roll of 40' wide x like 160' , is like $350 or so last i checked.. maybe a bit more now, prices have gone up.... you can get rolls, in 16' wide, 20, 24, 26, 28, 32, etc... the weight of the roll stays the same.. just the length changes based on the width.... we buy 200 lb rolls as it's the most economical.. they do sell, i think, 100 lbers too, just not as cheap per square feet...

if you where gonna do cars, you'd buy a roll of 16' wide.. which, sheesh, the length on a 200 lb roll is like 400+ feet long.. well, here... 16' wide x 115 lb are the short rolls.... this is DrShrink.. which is stooopid money.. the quality is killa.. but there are much more economical solutions out there... we prolly pay $175 for a comparable roll...

the gun can vary.. the handgun in that pic can run $300 to $600 depending on which one, shrinkfast, rypack, etc... but you can do it with just a weed burner kind of deal.. like a big red.. they are like $75, 100... good for the overall heating, but no so much for the lower welding... but doable..

Ok, good to know.
I have a couple of vehicles that have been stored in an enclosed space and I might need to get them out.
It costs me to store them so that might be cheaper in the long run.

ya figure that a 16 x 200 roll would do probably 8 or 9 cars, sooooooo.... you'd need a roll of the strapping/string too (it's cheap).. maybe a couple rolls of shrinktape..

and this is the most economical way to shrink it... these kind of weed burner deals... the handguns are very nice to use tho...

I would think that shrink wrap on a truck would hold moisture and sweat inside.
That'd cause more than it's trying to protect from. :dunno:
Boats are all water proof chit and fiberglass. Not the same effects.

if it's vented, it'll do fine...

well, that didn't take long.... :haha: I can see the center workstation evolving over the coming weeks..

tons to clean and organize.. big sale this summer..

need to get rid of the damn dudge seat.. but it rolls around easy enough...

I'll play with it some tomorrow... gotta hang the damn bike up....

and just to touch on Shady's question a bit.... boats have plenty of fabric in them also... ;) we put moisture control in all boats.. but proper venting is the key....

the K5 will have 6 strategic, waterproof vents in it.. the key to controlling moisture is airflow.... it's easy, as I have no windows... if I was doing cars for storage, the windows would be rolled down and vented accordingly...

I'm not worried about moisture control per se, as there is no fabric to worry about and everything is primed/painted.. but I will prolly hang a bunch in there in a couple weeks as I have a million free at work.. they are only good for so long tho... I can get in the truck thru the trans hatch. ;)

oh, and the plan is to go get steel for Mutt's tank on thurs at Fazio's, after dental torment....

boy, looking at those pics, The Lab™ has really degenerated into meh.... needs some attention....

tomorrows project is to build new bottle retainers/chains for the welding cart, so I can keep both bottles on at the same time, easy and secure..

kind of sucks, gonna need to pull the in-bed tool box out of the Furd to go get that 5 x 10 at Fazio's..... it fits between the bed rails on top of the wells, but it would be a top fuel wing out the back with 5" flopping up in the air... :doah: :haha:

did thoroughly soap/wash the underside of it today with blazing hot water for salt, etc too...

.

took an hr and banged this one out.. just moved the upper over/up, trimmed it... cut the lower in 1/2, trimmed, couple extra holes... wala...

ready for a new project.. :deal: so hopefully, this thread will be ending soon and I'll be doing tank construction in Mutt's...

Always makes for a more enjoyable experience. I am in the same boat, {pun intended} looking for a warm, dry place to store the 34 Ford so I can have some room to work.

it's funnay.. I have a bunch of floor space now, but it made me realize how clusterfugged all my storage is... there is actually a bathroom behind those brown filing cabs... it's filled to the ceiling with parts/stuff..... literally...

I really need to evaluate what's upstairs in the parts room, and attic, and shift/organize stuff around...
