S10, needed a beater to play with

So new radiator, some motor honey and shift at 2150?
Yep on all 3 for now, wonder when that connecting rod will decide to say farewell haha.

Plan is daily driver through the winter. Then after the f350 gets new injectors/turbo really start to play with this thing.

Part of me wants to pull the engine, replace the crank/main bearings along with a new oil pump, then reinstall. Other part of me wants to see how far the connecting rod will fly lol

I have always loved the square S10 body style. Had two '91 2wd 4cyl 5 speed ones. One 4x4 cant remember the year. The 4 cylinder ones had horrible piston slap. one quart of Lucas and 3 qts of oil and they sound like new lol.

4.3 is a good engine, just a 350 minus 2 cylinders, not sure on the exact stuff on the early 90s ones. https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/chevy-43l-262ci-v6-engine-build/

I always wanted to V8 swap one. Bypass the stupid CAD vacuum guy for the front axle, at a minimum take apart the vacuum diaphragm in the engine compartment and carry a small vise grip to just manually pull the cable out and clamp it in 4x4.

For the near future at least it'll stay 4.3 v6, whether this exact engine or another is up for debate. Oil pressure is all over the gauge from 0 to 80psi which could easily be electric problems or the oil pump considering the amount of metal shavings that came out of the oil and filter. Gonna drain the oil again to take a look at the pickup screen, find out if it's plugging up.

Should pull the pan to at least toss new bearings onto the connecting rod that's knocking. Not sure if it's easier to pull the engine or fight with the front axle in that regard.

Nice! Is it a TBI 4.3 or the Vortec version with the CPI? I'm actually going to hunt for another S10 for a winter beater too once things shake out for me. The next one will be 4wd though. I'll be looking for a ZR2 truck or Blazer.

Looking forward to following along!

love these little trucks. We got one at work that the bed was toasted, so we built a flatdeck for it. Funny looking but worth it haha. Not nearly as cool as this 5 speed 4x4 though.

TBI 4.3 engine, definitely on its last legs. Took it on a 30 mile round trip today getting fuel and food. When on the throttle there's some ticking. Get to coasting and that midget with a hammer inside the engine is banging around on everything hahaha.

Ooh hoo hoo that’s bad haha.

Right on! Spent many years bouncing around the jump seat as a kid deer hunting with my pops and uncle in an S-15 GMC version. Crappy little fold down seat in the back hahaha love it!!!
