Salvaged fresh from the trees, now what?

ok... I probably should have done the trans today too. However, I got distracted by the improvements in the engine. I'll get the transmission fluid changed soon, does it pay to use Royal Purple on something like this?

Which shop manual should I get when I'm getting my tranny supplies?

My opinion regular advanced auto atf is good for me, i dont think it would make much difference but correct me if im wrong. As for the manuels either chilton or hayne's will work there both good manuels.

If your looking for a manual for your truck I would look at finding a set of factory GM maunuals, if you have never seen one you will be blown away by the sheer volume of info in these. I have a set for my 80 truck, its a service manual, overhaul manual, and a full wiring diagram laid out front to back of the truck with every available option for that year. It makes it a breeze to chase down those electrical gremlins. plus the other manuals contain every single spec for the truck,It will save you from having to ask a lot of of the questions every new owner will have. from rebuilding diffs with torques and clearances to, aligning the sheetmetal to factory fits, to rebuilding the motor, tranny, steering boxes, even brake boosters, all transmissions, transfer cases, CV driveshafts, and so much more that I can't go on. I've seen them on ebay every once in a while. Theres also companies that deal just in these old books, If I can find it I'll get you the name of the company that got me mine, I believe it was around 90 - 100 dollars for the set. Good luck with your project.

Take a look at auto swap meets I read the above post right before I went to the Michigan Antique and Auto swap. I took a look at them and Wow there is a ton of info blows Chilton and Haynes out of the water. I bought the light duty 1974 and the 1975 supplement to the 1974 manual together for 55 dollars. Keep an eye open for those there just plain awesome.

Watch Ebay for the FSM's too. That's where I got mine and I hardly ever even look at the Hayne's manual anymore.

Thanks for the tips on the manuals. I'm assuming that FSM is Factory Shop Manual. I'll keep my eyes open for eBay, I love that thing. I looked at the Haynes and Chilton manuals and they seemed a bit basic even for me. However it would be nice to have something right now so that I can ID my transmission and transfer case.

Will there be a FSM for Blazers specifically or just for 'light duty' trucks?

Yep.

Make sure to figure out if it is a complete manual or a supplement. Nothing wrong with the supplements but then you have to get the year previous' FSM too to have everything.

gm will send a restoration manual out...i got 1 for my 56 panel and it showed all models available that year,w/ specs, etc,etc...oh its free or was free

Thanks for the links... I'll get right on those so I can get my transmission serviced.

What is the easiest way to identify what is in my Blazer with out the manual?

Is there an identification guide on here some where that I haven't found yet? If there isn't, I'll help someone make one.
