I don't hunt like you guys- not because I object, I just didn't grow up with it- but I dam sure spend as much time outside as I can... I'm a big believer in solo back county camping trips to ease my troubled soul. When the K5 is ready for it I'll take it out to remote spots but for now I'll share my outdoor adventure pics sans K5...

These are from a trip I took to Colorado Bend State Park over thanksgiving. I went by myself because I couldn't get back east with the fam and I was a little sad about it. Pretty country out there....

The above are of my campsite, right on the river, which was soooooo low. I guess the site used to be very popular for fishing trips and I can see why- they were practically swimming into my hands

Hikey Campy....

WIN!!! :haha:

I went to colorado and hiked in the mountains for a week with a 50 lb backpack. I swore Id never do it again. AMAZING thing to do and see. But 50 LBs is a 3rd my weight, and thats not cool to carry for a week on my skinny legs :haha:

I did a lot lot lot of hiking on this trip, clears the mind. I had just had a huge fight with my man so I had anger to burn but as a result made some stupid mistakes: my first hike was about 6-7 miles and I started at 3 after driving most of the day. I took only a trail map,my mag light, my phone that had no service, my day pack with water and a cliff bar, and my compass and a pocket knife. Stupid. First part of the hike was easy, stead climb but easy. I saw a silver fox and a ton of doe... Second part... It was about 345 and I realized the sun would be going down so I figured I'd better pick up the pace... The last leg of the trail was a very steep descent on smooth riverbed- difficult is putting it mildly. The trail was not well marked and there were several river crossings... Wet feet, darkening skies, no firearm, basically lost in the failing light. It sucked and was scared to death of being eaten... I hear this loud crashing in the woods and I freeze- this giant buck walks out on the trail, I could smell him, almost touch him. I thought I would die... Missed a cell phone pic by a half second because I was so fear frozen... I lost the trail several times but just kept at my compass and heading down... It was basically dark when I finally hit the wide part of the trail back to camp.... And it still took my another 30 minutes to get all the way back... Not my finest hour. But still- great pics....

The next morning I washed up in the river. Frankly it was effin grand... You will excuse the lack of "pin-up-ness" I usually put out in my pics.. I have an inner hippie and this is her...

Later that day I hiked to Gorman Falls. Got the items list in pack right that time.... It was a long hike, lots of loose rocks, glad I wore shorts... And... WORTH IT. Google gorman falls, its super cool... And the river was warm. I can't tell you how very tempted I was to swim but there were people around.

And the river, which was low enough that I was able to wade/rock hop to a huge boulder in the middle, where I laid in the sun and watched birds of prey do their thing....

That night I was beat down, it really was a long hike, and I used to live and hike in Colorado... So I got high as a kite and built a big$$ fire... I was camped in the canyon and out of nowhere someone starts playing a French horn... It was amazing and surreal and in all my life I've never had an experience like it... The sunset from the ridge

The next day I hiked in the opposite direction. I didn't read this anywhere but I am absolutely sure I came upon a place where old cabins must've been... The land was odd and I found this piece of purple glass on the ground- not occurring in nature, and a color that was popular in the 60s.... Also found several entrances to caves... I know they do a spelunking tour there, wish I had done it...

I closed this trip by going through Mineral Wells, a place I hike fairly often. I love it there- I feel very at home on the trails- even though the camping utterly sux. Found the turtle shell on the trail in an area were there used to be a lot of swamp but is now all dried up. Bones still in it... I actually went to pick it up because I thought other was an old car part..
lol
