Sara's hikey campy thread...

Anyway, pics. Seems it will only let me upload 2 at a time from my phone...

holy chit, everything I touch today is made of fail.... trying AGAIN.

Please take note of my old merrills, as this may be their final journey... :doah:

So the elevation is nowhere near Lost Maples, which is actually hard to tell in the pics, but this is something I would classify as a "kid's hike"..... Note the parking lot to the left. Spoiled :(

The green arrow has to be my favorite trail blaze that I've ever seen. The pond was actually outside the park boundary, I slipped through the fence to get in there--- looking for stuff like skulls or anything exceptional-- and finally, part of the creek where I busted my a$$, although where I slipped was flat and broad. It'st just that after I fell, I was DONE taking pics. :haha:

some more pink cactus.
The pic with the people in it is a difficult one- it is of the seasonal "Wildcat Waterfall", which is now just a trickle. I had no safe vantage point to get good perspective pics, but this thing is badass- the bowl is all carved out and it's like.... 60 feet? I dunno, I'm bad at that. But even without the water flowing hard, it was still pretty impressive.

And, finally, my view of my dash for 70 miles. (obv at a stop sign) Ugh.

forget the cute hippie, keep hiking....you need it for mental reasons!
Glad your Jeep got ya home, so alternator then?

I don't know exactly, not yet. I had this exact thing happen in a similar situation a few months back when I was coming home from Galveston, and it magically fixed itself, but of course I knew it would be back. And here it is. I would have to search for the old thread, I think the concensus was a bad connection somewhere.

The kicker is that it runs ok with this problem, starts right up and runs... but something is just a tiny bit off, like so tiny that only me with my 140k miles in the same seat but would notice it. Like I said, I felt/heard something off to the point where I was staring at gages, which were all normal. Until the volt one suddenly wasnt.

Frankly, I wanted to like this day and it really fn fell apart after the loss of the sweatshirt- so much so that I (insanely) wondered if the cute hippie was the devil crossing my path to curse me, or even God to knock me down a peg and remember to be grateful????

Anyway, I parked it, shut it off, kicked it, came inside to warm up because I was afraid to run any auxiliary power so I froze the whole way home, drank a beer, and tried to figure out this day. I'll look at it tomorrow but it really fs up my new year's plans, which was camping on the beach :doah:

Cool. Thanks for the report. You'll be back on the trail in no time.

That was a fun read of your trip. That just left me thirsty for a good beer. Oh, and the desire to go for a hike. But mostly a beer. I need to find me a hiking/exploring buddy. I have one, and he finds cool places to go, but physically it's a bear for me to slow down to his pace. If you've ever done it, you know how much a nuisance it can be to slow (or speed up) from your natural pace. Esp. going up or down hills.

I've been going it mostly alone for a really long time. I think it's usually best that way, for me.

Of course we're not talking about any true outback excursions, not really, so then it might be best to have a buddy.

And slowing down is WORSE than speeding up, at least for me, it's a real pain in the knees, literally, to put the brakes on all the time

No Dino print pictures from the creek bed?

I hiked the other side, away from the "prints", mainly because I was in search of a more solitary grownup experience :-) one day when I'm in a more tolerant mood, iI'll go back and check out prints, though I'm a bit of a skeptic :haha:

I've seen them a few times when I have taken my children there when they were young and fascinated with all things dinosaur, the prints are pretty amazing. I'll be taking my grandson there in a while when it warms up after a cruise through Fossil Rim for the requisite Ostrich attack.

.. in Glen Rose, Tx, which is about 1.5 hrs southwest of metroplex.
I decided to take this hike very last minute this morning because I thought I had to work but turns out I was off.

It was good at first, cold this morning for the jeep but I'm used to it.... temps got up into 60s and I'm super glad I made a decision before trekking out to strip off the pants and just wear shorts and knee socks- I got there at about 1030 and within 30 min of hiking I had stripped off all outer layers and was down to just a tank top..... which is how the END of the hike became a complete FAIL.

Trucking along, feeling pretty ok after about 5 miles of somewhat cool terrain- not nearly as lovely as Lost Maples but also a lot easier. I will call this place.... "spoiled with good potential".... lots of cars in parking lot, is in some airports flight patterns, power lines everywhere.... not virgin territory at all.

JUST a tank top? :D

Sara, hearing a noise and then later having a volt meter show low volts i'll bet you have a bad bearing in the alternator making noise and also an intermittant issue with the voltage regulator.

JUST a tank top? :D

I should have guessed this was coming. :haha:

Most of these trails are empty enough where a little nekkid hiking would be just fine.

Replacing alternator today. In the rain. Stay tuned for the pics of the redneck tarp garage I intend to set up :haha:
