Nice idea with the sway bar. Great build. Where are you finding the floor shifter w/boot and floor cover? Any place to order online or hit the junkyard?

Thankyou, as for the floor shifter/linkage/cover etc i bought it from just chevy trucks.com. They have alot of parts for this style truck. Pretty cheap shipped and in decent shape. On the left side of the tunnel there under the carpet or mat there also is a cutout in the foam and some have the indent in the floor. You will see what i mean when you roll the carpet or mat. I pulled the driverside seat out to get at it better.

Its been awhile

Its been months, been super busy with overtime at work and many other things..lol. I did a few little changes but not much, I swapped the bilstein front 4 shocks for a softer valved set. Turned them around also boots down..lol. Changed the sway bar links too with a set of shock to eye adapters and a set of links with poly bushings. Last I did hydro assist, sent the box to have it tapped to west texas offroad, bought their 1.5 x 8 ram, hoses etc. A friend works at the local gm dealer so I changed the powersteering pump. Also I changed the power steering lines, oil coler lines and all the trans/cooler lines. I installed a new b&w 15,000lb hitch with firestone air bags to tow my 83 around to the mudboggs. It pulls pretty good for a gas truck. Best mileage tho towing a 10,000lb load was 9-10 mpg. It gets 12 with my high test wheatley tune. Here are a few pics..

links, poly bushings with solid 5/8 rod welded between them, with the bar more flat it handle like a race car..lol

New b&w hitch with hella reverse lights

Firestone air bags

hydro assist
mounted, was removed and sway bar link cut off and redone also. I used a synergy tube clamp instead

Hooked up and in ohio, 300 miles and pulled perfect.

Yankee lake

Big green 77 on rocks and 54 boggers, is a friend of mine that I followed out there

I also forgot to add the latest mod to the 83 will be 2.5 ton rockwells and 44s. I have both..lol. Unless im talked out of it, I picked up a set of 5:13s and a locker for the 60 right before the rockwells came into the picture. I have been tossing up what to do. I like keeping the 83 road worthy but I hardly drive it as is anymore. Ive been looking for a 18 foot car trailer instead of the utility trailer in the above pics.

I have a kit here that I picked up from ridetech.....hint hint.. lol

Thankyou, the truck works great.

I haven't done a whole lot to this thing besides drive it lately. Until a nasty vibration started 2 weeks ago. The gear install I had done wasn't done right and it now needs to be redone. I have a master overhaul kit for the 14 bolt, a new yoke and have a new set of Yukon 5:13s coming from randys. Which really sucks spending another 700.00 in something that I shouldn't have too.

I ordered a set of deaver coils from bronco graveyard and installed em as soon as they got here. The ride is a lot softer and it drives I think better than it has in years. The pillar pod with the aeroforce gauges drove me nuts so I bought a pod from ebay to put them in my overhead console. The stainless nerfbars had to go, I put a set of dual hoop nfabs on and they look way better. I sold the goodyear mt's that were on my welds, I put mtr's on them instead. They look a whole lot better, no pics tho till its nice out..lol.

Heres a few pics

Nice! Its good to hear updates on mods that just flat out work. Thanks for doing so.
So, why the change on the sway bar? Needed something stronger?
I think I remember reading you sent your box into to get tapped?

I sold the factory swaybar with the 6-7.5 superlift I removed from the truck. The swaybar I used was only because the width and the ends worked out for me. I looked at quite a few in the junkyard with a measuring tape and when I found one I could make work I ordered a new one from dorman. It came with the mounts and its brand new. For the lil over 100.00 the bar was and around 20 for the energy suspention greaseable bushings it worked out rather nice. The first set of sway bar end links I made from threaded rod and conduit were test pieces to see if it was all worth it, So the new end links were made since it worked out so well.

As for the steering box I had a redhead steering gear that I send to west texas offroad(home of redneck ram). They ported and tapped the box for me. I bought their kit with the hoses, fittings, 1.5x8 cylinder and mounts. The mounts for the axle were fine but the tierod mount needed to be adjustable so I bought a synergy tube clamp and welded the tabs to it.

The deavers are a 300 linear rate spring which compared to my preogressive rates these are like night and day. What a huge difference in ride quality and how it handles. Sorry the truck looks so bad, winter has been extra harsh. We had more snow this year than in the last 1 years. The road salt and prep nonsense they use really tears everything up.

Its currently not driveable, the rear is all apart, waiting for the new ring and pinion to come on Monday. The front axle also makes noise, the right ujoint is toast. I found that out when I just put new bearings, rotors and spindle bearings last week. I have a new set of spicer life joints to put in after the rear is fixed. I just had the rear shaft retubed/balanced and put spicers in that also along with a nickel plated slip yoke.

The deaver superflex springs at bronco graveyard are cheap too for the 78-79 bronco...:waytogo:...It was to the point if these don't work im going to airbags or coilovers. I want it simple and these worked great.

I got it up and running Tuesday after ups dropped off the new rear 513 gears. It seems perfect now, the axle seems so much smoother and super quiet.

I have a new problem that was there for the last 2 months and is getting worse. I think the rear vibration helped this one. The adapter between the trans and the case is leaking. So I ordered a new seal for the trans, new trans mount, gasket for the adapter, reman np241 and a pml trans pan. The trans pan will be 3.7 quarts larger for towing. A new tcase is being installed for the piece of mind. The trans will get a new wix filter and fresh fluid. I usually drain/fill with a new filter every 15,000 miles. My trans temps stay pretty low and it shifts real nice...by serviving it this way it seems to be pretty good at 125,000 miles.

Where did you order a whole new case from?

Reman 241 on eBay with a year warranty, its also in pa. About 4.5 hours from me. Will be ups to me this week. Hopefully everything comes so I can do it Monday/tuesday when I'm off.

Its a transmission/transfercase business thats done it for years.I was told they replace most parts inside the case like chain, bearings shift pads etc. I was going to find one and rebuild it but after adding up the parts and buying one I'll try the already done way...I'll let you know how it is.

Cool, what's the eBay name?

Joes transmission service, I found it on eBay but called em at their shop for details on a price and a core. A friend of mine lives out there and was coming home. Gave him a core I had so that I don't have to deal with. That part worked out great, ended up getting it shipped to me 600.00. That sounded good to me, I just need to find the bolt size so I can pick new ones up.

There's a few places out west that sell em with a one year warranty and are around the same price shipped. Some even don't need a core..

My 241 t-case came in today along with my pml trans pan. The builder says they like to use 5w-30 synthetic, I happen to have ams oil signature oil here. Also stopped at the dealer today and picked up a new seal, trans mount and a gasket for the adapter. Im doing some front end work this week. I bought longfield spindle bushings from trail gear since I couldn't find the site anymore. Also have spicer life joints, warn premiums and new wheel bearings. A few weeks ago I replaced the rotors and noticed the wheel bearings weren't the greatest. Its all getting done so I know its all good. Next im looking for a right side springless steering arm and a springless cap for the left side. I need to find a narrow arm.

I wanted to buy another longfield tshirt when I bought the bushings and it sent me to trail gear. I didn't buy one of their shirts..lol. Nice, thanks for the link. Ill order a set of those for both my 60's. Are the bronze bushings ok for a street truck..?

Just saw this thread, Badass build! It's giving me some bad ideas for my Tahoe... :doah:
