The GRINCH is alive!!! Final tuning and pics tonight!!!
Have to final tune the Fuel Injection and the Trans Controller.

Nice Dennis, You have to be pretty damn excited to finally have it alive and kicking. :saweet::woot:

Pics tonight will be great, but I still want to see pics of this 1st gen romping in the snow. :D

Great to see the fruits of your labor payin off, real nice Blaze!! I randomly stumbled onto your thread this afternoon and read the whole thing, nice work, I feel like I showed up at the right time! Subd...

That's cool Dennis. I'm chomping at the bit for this kind of victory.

Well the Grinch may be alive but he is bleeding!! And a slight miss on the pass side.
It's late, I'm pissed and Mr. Murphy needs to leave me the fock alone.

On break in I had a few small oil leaks on the fittings of my cooler. A small coolant leak. No biggie.
After it was shutdown and we pushed it back in the shop (Tranny wasn't filled all the way and the controller needed programming) I noticed some oil dripping around the starter area, not much just a few drips on the floor.

Well tonight we fired it up to adjust the timing and play around with the fuel injection system. After it was running between 900 and 1200 RPM for about 5 minutes I noticed some dripping from the starter area. Looked around and it was NOT coming from the valve covers. NOT coming from the back of the intake either. After running for about 15 minutes or so there was a puddle on the floor around 8-10".
It sure does look like it's coming from the head/block area. Could the head gasket be bad? :dunno:

Major leak #2. Moved on to topping off the trans. Slight leak on the cooler. No big deal. As I added more fluid I noticed a leak at the back of the trans.
Major leak. We decide to pull the transfer case. Some Dumb Ass (me) only sealed one side of the clocking ring. Another problem that I noticed was the studs on the clocking ring pushed into the transfer case as the nut was tightened. Fixed that. Fired up the new Miller 211 and tacked them in from the back side. Cleaned up the clocking ring, got out the tube of Right Stuff and coated ALL surfaces. Problem solved!!:thumb:

Problem: On the same side of the oil leak there is a slight miss/stumble. Since I'm running some hillbilly (no offense, Southern Brothers) exhaust you can really hear it when you stand in the back.

The cooling system also needs little tweaking. The dual sensor I used for the windstar fans is not working good. The first fan doesn't come on until about 200 and the other fan doesn't even come on. I did however run some temporary grounds so I could bypass the sensor to get the fans to come on.

I let the Fuel Injection stay in self learn mode. It's running a little rich. All plugs a little black. I will be checking for vac leaks and maybe some of the preliminary settings are a little off.

Sorry for the long post and rant but I do feel better after typing it all out.

Just need to fix one problem at a time and move on. There's still some snow to go flying through.

Sorry no pics tonight/this morning.

Sorry to hear about the troubles, but at least it's running! I'm sure you'll get everything ironed out here soon. I know after a long day of wrenching I've been ready to sell the damn thing when everything isn't perfect. That's how it goes with custom stuff though. I always wonder why I couldn't be one of those people that doesn't give a rats a$$ what he drives... till I see a dude in a miata then I'm back on track:whistle: Hopefully it's not the head gasket, but it sounds like it may be the case.

As for the running rich, what EFI controller are you using? (I'm looking into the EZ EFI and was going to ask what you thought of it if that's what you're using). Good luck working out the kinks.

So, first, chances of that leak actually being a head gasket are very very slim in my opinion. There is no "oil pressure" running threw the head gaskets. Just oil draining back down from the heads into the pan. So i think your ok there. it could be coming from your oil pressure sending unit. If not, its likely the oil pan gasket or rear main seal. Second, What did you run for a rocker assembly? Are they adjustable? Have a valve not adjusted properly would certainly give you a miss. Lastly, is there a different spot you could run the coolent temp sensor that is a little "hotter" then where is is now? Where do you have it now?

This truck has come a long way, sorry about the troubles. Hang in there and finish it up.

I'm using the Retrotek/Professional Products system.

Taking it one problem at a time. I just hate any leakage of any kind. I'm sure I will be able to tweak this Injection system to peak performance in no time.

I didn't think it could be the head either but It only leaks while running. There is no oil around the sending unit. That I would see since it's in a valley. I don't see any around the valve cover areas or the back of the intake. The only real place I see it is from the head to block seam and down. I'm going to wipe the whole side down with brake cleaner and run it again and see if I can pin point it a little better. Be nice if they made a dye to put in the oil that would show up with a black light or something.

I'm running
MTS Roller Tipped Shaft Rocker system, NON-Adjustable, full support - 1.70 ratio.

I think the coolant sensor is in a good spot. I have a total of 3 Coolant sensors in the block in or near the stock cad locations. They read about the same. I think the sensor is just off on the temp a little. Prior to installing it I used my heat gun to test that it would open and close but not the temps at which it did .

they do make leak detectors.. exactly what you described, dye and a UV light... i was gonna buy one at my last marina...

Im not sure where you have your temp switch installed, but....

Hossbaby50 found a lower rated switch and posted up in my Windstar thread a while back. Its number (FS270) and is set to 174*/194*.

Napa carries it....

Good luck !
