What do you guys have for security systems in your trucks/cars? I am moving to a city in the coming month and I think for piece of mind I wanna put something in it that would at least try and prevent someone from jacking my truck.

I am gonna put a kill switch in it, but I am not too sure where I should wire it up to. Any suggestions? Any suggestions on a good alarm?

keep the safty kill easy for you to get and hit without someone seeing it and knowing its there. and also hide the stuff good from the possible theft people who will just cut the wires and twist together and go.

computer power / kill fuel pump / ignition coil / or starter trigger wire off the steering colume switch so no power to the starter.

and best thing i have to say is NOTHING left out to see and be a eye catcher for them to even want.

keep the inside clean of cd disks / papers / tools / anything worth money.

dont let it stand out and draw there eye also.

and how many times do we actualy look when we here a car alarm these days ? i know as a mechanic for years i hate them. and ignor the heck out of them.

switch for fuel pump.
switch for coil.

But them in random places and do not make them look obvious.

I.E. I had my coil cutoff hooked to my cig lighter in my Datsun. You had to hold it in, while you pushed the start button, also the ebrake had to be down, and clutch pedal out.

It was fun watching my buddies try and start it haha

Well, I'd tell you, but like they say..............
And I can't afford the gas to go up there and do it.

The tricky stuff that you have to hold down or turn on to make it run is fine.
But, if riders or someone standing nearby can see you do it and its obvious, then you have just eliminated its main value.

Several folks I know have a switch hidden under the floor mat on the left side higher than you would normally put your left foot, but not way up there.

They can hop in, crank the car, and be gone and even if you were watching for a move, you would not notice.

The switch I would love to use they don't make any more. Back in the 70's if I remember right, Lincoln and some upper line Fords had the horn button as a rubber ring inside the rim of the steering wheel.

It was great. To blow the horn, all you had to do was squeeze the wheel anywhere.
In fact, if someone did something dangerous in front of you, you often blew the horn automatically.

The only downside was if the engine stalled. Cranking that barge to the curb with no power steering, you were blowing the horn all the way.

But, what a great kill switch that would be. Just squeeze the wheel when you were cranking.
No one would ever notice. The rubber usually matched the wheel color, and looked like a grip strip or something.

Fockin thieves

Dude I run a auto glass shop and every day it's the same thing, don't leave anything in the truck, ie, wallet, shades, loose change, ipads, cell phones, keys, gum, food, boxes, jackets, umbrellas, radar detector, GPS, guns, tools or tool boxes, jackalls, rocks, briefcases, luggage, knives, CD's, tapes, kleenex or wet naps, back packs, gym bags, charger cords etc, etc, etc, When you park leave the glove box open (remove the light bulb) and leave the console open.
On my Jimmy I had rigged it so when you parked the truck you'd push the cigarette lighter in and that shut off the starter. When you came out you'd pull out the cig lighter and she'd fire up. I also had installed a Magnadyne car alarm with remote start and it was a great alarm. The bright blue flashing light was an excellent deterent

Get a Code Alarm

For Valentines Day a few years back wifey got me a Code Alarm for my DD with a 2 way lcd remote alarm system with remote start, it works up to a quarter mile away, newer ones can go a mile (if not further now).

I like having the remote start, but the alarm has helped, and the sensitivity level is adjustable so it isn't going off for every little thing.

Also the lcd remote lets you know if the alarm is going off and it confirms if your truck started for the remote start function.

Maybe one of these too :dunno:

I've got family in the mob... hmmmm....

Thanks so far guys. I think right now, I am gonna run a kill switch to the fuel pump and the coil or the starter. Might get an alarm system later on down the line, depending on how I feel about the area I am gonna be living in.

Anything after 1984 doesnt have a floor mounted dimmer switch. I mean, who would think to hit the headlight dimmer?

i agree w/ polsky on the code alarm. i have one in my blazer w/ remote windows and remote start. nice alarm system. have a reputable shop put it in. the guys who put mine in used all the factory wiring so if anything is cut, it still won't start. they also hid the module winder the dash and put the siren inside some body panels. i can open the doors and hood, set the alarm off and you'll never be able to find a component. alarms don't do any good if the bad guys can come in and disable it w/ a snip of some cutters.
