Seen a "different" kinda shackle flip today...

Could it look something like this...

Please pardon my getto graphics...

Except for not showing a brace which I would add, that is EXACTLY what I plan on building next summer... No need to do anything until I have the proper front springs, I prefer to just do it all at once.

Flipping the spring like that, and providing 4" form bolt center to bolt center will "virtually" move the spring end a total of 8", which will provide 'exactly' 4" of rear lift.... now add that with $300 for 4" Superlift front springs with bushings, and you have a very cost effective 4" lift with a great ride and flex.

Anyway, in concept it all sounds sweet.

Once I have the setup installed, Ill be able to reply back with accurate feedback.

I would weld in a sleave for the bolt to go through on the factory bracket. just like the one that runs through the spring eyes on the factory springs. then, yes, a cross tie could be done mid span on the shackle itself.

I looked at my factory hanger today and you would also have to clearance the factory hanger on the inboard side to allow the shackle to move/rotate

i think its a doable idea...

Personal experience:
1989 Chevy S-10: No bushings on upper part of rear shackle
1993 Jeep Cherokee: No bushings on upper part of rear shackle

Your personal experience mus be severely limited to not know any better.

That same design shackle is what I will be using for my DIY 4" rear lift and will cost nothing, except there is not center strap in that drawing, and that would be critical to eliminate lateral slop.

Both S10s and XJs have a bushing in the frame that the upper shackle bolt goes through. Ask me how I know. :D

Doah! Ill shut up now... :haha:

Never looked up that far.

So, hows the weather in your area? We got Indian Summer to deal with now, back the mid 90's!

Piss on all of that. I just went to the junkyard and found a frame and cut off the front hanger for the rear springs for $10.00. Drilled a few holes and bolted it right up. Bolted up the stock shackle that already has the bushing in it and I was done.

Anything over 75 is too hot for me. Gonna be in the 90s all week :doah:

Anytime you have to have a pivot point like a suspension shackle there has to be a bushing of some sort. Otherwise the bolt will be sheared off in short time.

I did this years ago also, and it worked perfectly. and looked completely stock. :thumb:
