Seen the new "Dirt Every Day"?

I flew out to CA and stayed with Fred for a week and worked on suspension, steering and engine install. We put our coilover system on the front with a custom axle bracket set to work with the portal system, then did spring under in the rear with a shackle flip and the 6" springs that he had on the truck to start. Engine was a 8.1L junkyard motor with our crossmember and mounts going to his existing 4L80. We also installed the portal ends on the D60 and 14 bolt. Actually, the "we" is a bit loose on the 14 bolt portal ends, Fred did most of that one himself while I took a drive up to Pacific Fab to visit Kevin and crew. I got to drive the Tug Truck from Paso Robles up to Gilroy which was kind of fun too. I'd been with it on the trail but never got to drive it till then. This was all right before BlazerBash so I flew/drove home (flight cancelled in Phoenix and had to rent a car and drive phoenix to Grand Junction) and then got in our '04 2500HD with the new SAS stuff and went on a big adventure with my family and Brent and Amber (@RedDog) to get to Moab for BB16. It was kind of a whirlwind but super fun.
I didn't get to go to Alaska. Kind of bummed about that one but is what it is. I may get to play with the Army Truck at an event down here and I'm sure I'll see the Daystar truck in action at some other event, they're pretty good about getting it out. It has a Magnum in it.

I could have watched a lot more footage on the build, it would have been interesting. The video skims over it pretty quickly.

Stephen, I must have just missed you. I was up there helping Fred wrap up the 8.1 swap and buttoning up the fuel system.

I was drooling over the links and portals.

Can't believe the video is up already. I think he only got back like a two weeks ago!

Great episode. @Stephen's calm "we've-built-a-lot-of-these-before-and-know-the-recipe-by-heart" voice is a huge contrast to the rest of the MTOD cast. Nicely done, and a great feature for ORD.

It makes me want to link the front of the Suburban.

Maybe I was mistaken but they showed a quick group shot of the people helping with wiring etc. Maybe i'm wrong, i'll have to watch again.

Will have to see it but I was working on the harness for the 8.1. It is amazing how much work can be done in a short amount of time. I was there for one day and between about 5 of us a ton of stuff got done.

After seen the link in person I have to agree it is super burly and really really trick. Made me reconsider the ORD leafs I was planning on ordering.

I was so stoked when Fred told me he was doing this build. I knew the K5 thrash battle episode was coming out so saving the cucv and making it sing again was awesome. Those treps are huge btw.

The Alaska Segment of that episode was filmed here in town . A bunch of my buddy's wheeled with them . Was really bummed that I didn't get to tag along

How does one getting know Fred? Seems cool he wheels with the locals and gets to know everybody.

Do you watch it on the computer? I was trying on a tablet.

I live relatively close to him and through a chance encounter I bought some stuff from him. Had no idea who he was or what he did when I first met him. He just seemed like a good guy which he is.

I have yet to whee with him, tried to get him to meet me in pismo this weekend but he was swapping fluid in the diffs and portals after the Alaska trip lol

Really looking forward to seeing this episode. The truck is really awesome and I am stoked he brought it out of retirement.
