Seen the new "Dirt Every Day"?

I live relatively close to him and through a chance encounter I bought some stuff from him. Had no idea who he was or what he did when I first met him. He just seemed like a good guy which he is.

I have yet to whee with him, tried to get him to meet me in pismo this weekend but he was swapping fluid in the diffs and portals after the Alaska trip lol

Really looking forward to seeing this episode. The truck is really awesome and I am stoked he brought it out of retirement.

That is really cool, he seems like a great guy.

That's awesome. Almost as awesome as Stephens comment about it being a "real truck". I got a kick out of that line.

Ahh...that sucks. I have had issues with MTOD. I don't think their servers are top notch or prepared for the demand...seems kinda flimsy to navigate their site, imo. But, I like my car shows!

I agree they make some entertaining stuff but as someone who posts stuff on YouTube the money they are making from ad revenue and product placement and endorsement asking people to pay to see shows a month early seems like a cash grab.

I won't do it.
Especially hearing that they don't buffer right seems even lamer.

I've had zero issues with buffering. Running chrome on mac osx

You have to subscribe to motor trend on demand to see them "early".

Can someone help me understand why they did the spring over axle+lift spring+shackle flip setup in the rear?

I can't seem to get on demand to play, just sits trying to buffer.
Yeah, it only works on my Android tablet, not Amazon TV like they said it would. I tried to cancel, Android kept buffering. Finally cancelled through my phone. They did send me a 99¢ per month for three months offer to re-up. Maybe....

Portals are the suspension equivalent to a 5" block with leaf springs and one way to get around that is by going spring under which puts the spring close to where it would normally run in relation to the wheel center. That's the important detail, where is the wheel center, NOT the axle tube. This is why we had a different coilover bracket set for the front, we had to drop the lower link and add separation to keep it all alive since the tube is essentially moved up 5".
So with the spring under system, you have decent axle wrap control (at least as much as a normal spring over system with the spring right on the axle) but have to make up around 7" of lift height. So the 6" rear spring plus a 4" flip system gets it in the ball park of the 3" lift height we were shooting for in the front.

Think about it a minute and it makes sense but it isn't obvious. In fact it makes for some pretty comical discussions when we work it out! Can't wait to see it myself.

It's not like we had a meeting and decided the show would have a different feel compared to the previous clown car builds but it evolved that way as it went and became obvious as we were filming it. In fact Fred told me at one point that Dave Chapelle was kind of sad to miss this one since he hasn't been in on a build that really mattered for a while. It would be fun to just hack some stuff together and go tear it up but it was time to make something nice again for sure.

Knik glacier is a really cool place , it's definitely not a hard trail but it's a good way to spend a day.

Baldy, the first trail they ran is not a tough trail either but the views from the top are pretty crazy.

It's to bad they didn't get the chance they run some of our tougher trails and really get out and see the backcountry

Would have been awesomer to see ORD in Alaska instead of Daystar. I mean really, look at the quality and level of engineering that went into ORD's contribution versus a dozen urethane pucks...

At any rate, great job by Stephen and the ORD crew! Very entertaining.

Yea, I kinda agree. It is all about the $$ though. Daystar apparently has $ to throw around. Who would have thought.

I finally saw it. Glad to see I made the cut lol....

I know it's all about the payoff, but I wish this show had more tech on it.

And I think the 42s are to big on this truck, with portals 40s would be fine.

Man I never realized 4 linking a truck was so easy, only an afternoons worth of work. LOL!

I wish Interco would sponsor more stuff like this but I know they are tight with the freebies. Projects like this are cool but it's annoying to me to see whatever free tire was available put on it, just because it's big doesn't mean it's a good mud tire.
