Sergeant Steel

Updating and improving a military M1008
In this case how would they know unless you tell them? I dont recall the cucvs having anything special on the VINs so to them it should just be a chevy truck :dunno:

I think the VIN is different than a K30. This is why some insurance companies have problems looking up the VIN. Mine is 1GCGD34J3GF38XXXX (last digits 4 left out). Also there's the emissions thing where these never had the same emission standards like the intake manifold the civilian ones had. It does pass emissions here in Denver though. Colorado is getting to be very Libtarded! Our governor is a joke.

Edit- 5th digit "D" shows it military

I saw something about this and I wondered if it would effect CUCV's.

I'm holding my breath on whether or not I'm going to have to start doing emissions testing. The new state government hates my county so I'm sure it's coming.

So glad I moved out of CO. Most of my family is looking to get outta that state soon too.

I’d be interested if u end up wanting to sell it

Thanks for posting the petition link. I read about this on a military vehicle Facebook group I am in. Complete and utter BS!!! If they can pull this, then you can be sure they will have their eyes on antique and classic cars too

I took a look at that whole document for the first time.

I’m not an attorney, I’m just a LEO, but I’m used to reading between the lines for technicalities.

Are we looking at a law, or a regulation, or just a guideline for DMV employees to follow?

That being said, they have to define the word “military” somewhere. In some states, the state constitution is written so that the “unorganized militia” or similar language, is part of the state’s military forces. I know MA is like that; technically all able-bodies persons age 18 to 65 are the “unorganized militia” and are thus components of the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth.

It's definitely confusing the way its worded. It is a bill that got passed in July 2019.

CO DMV internal memo says not to title or register any military vehicle, including historical interest MV.

5th letter in the VIN shows "D" which means it came from military. Thats all the DMV needs to see and I imagine their computer systems probably restrict from registering any military vehicle INCLUDING trailers which is pretty stupid. Last time I was in getting plates for another car, I did ask but she was not sure but just gave me a "probably" answer. I was on my lunch hour otherwise I would have spoken to someone that had more knowledge of this. At the same time, I'm not going to volunteer my m1008 info and tell them I have 5 year plates but I could propose I was thinking of buying one to get an answer.

Theres a thread about this with more info on steel soldiers.

BTW you have to love the verbage in section 5...
Safety clause. The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, and safety.

Forking stupid.

So if you already have your CUCV registered you are cool until it's time to renew? Or are they going to pull what you got without warning?

It wouldn't surprise me from a governor who wears tennis shoes with a suit to try sending notices of revoked registration.
:ignore:

I'm pretty sure people are fine if its registered. I don't think they can Legally revoke your registration. I've already paid for the 5 years. Still have 3 left.

I texted my buddy Ian and it was the first time he had heard of it. He just got his legal to ride back in March or April. But he did not go classic plates. I wonder if he is going to get screwed when he renews.

He probably will get screwed. They likely won't renew it unless this gets reversed somehow. I always get the 5 year collector plates when possible and I plan to keep it for awhile. No emissions on 75 and older. 76+ just the first one, then once every 5 years. I asked DMV if I got the normal 1 year plates on my 1923 Willys T-bucket if it needs emissions and they said yes. If I got the 5 year collector plates then no emissions ever. Could you imagine at the emissions testing center, the look on their eyes pulling in with 1923 Willys T-bucket 454ci and all?!!
