shackle flip vs. lift springs

I'm looking at the DIY4X shackle flip and saw something about flipping the sides when installing them. What benefit is there to flipping them? It's going on a 89 Burb. I was also thinking of going with 6" shackles if that matters. I was looking at the post on the vendors forum, but most of the pictures are gone and couldn't find much. My other burb currently has a ORD 4" flip, but we welded to frame because the burb was so damn rusty, it was to much work to drop the tank

Flipping the brackets allows you to run longer springs in the rear.

With 56" rear springs, you flip them side for side. They are meant for 52" rear springs.

With 52" springs, you mount the brackets so the shackle hole is farther forward. With 56" springs you "flip" them side to side so that now the shackle hole is farther back. With the awesome DIY4X design of the nut plates (hehe) it makes it easier to mount and you don't even need to drop the gas tank. I have installed an ORD & DIY4x flip kit on 2 different K5s. On neither one did I drop the gas tank

oops, I did give you some wrong info. On my Jimmy, I used them as advertised with 52's. I forgot you have to swap them around for the 56's, which is what you probably have on your suburban.

What if they are going on a Suburban that originally has 56" springs? Does it matter then?

Burbs have holes in the frame for 52's and 56's. With your 56's, if you want to use the forward frame holes, the bracket offset goes to the rear. If you want to use the rear set of holes (those are being used now), the bracket offset goes to the front.

Thanks. :waytogo:

wish I had the $$ for ORDs custom springs...

the look goooodddddd to me. Haven't heard anything bad about them either.

Same here. I picked up a shackle flip kit a couple of years back. They (the springs) are tempting...

FWIW, I am going from lift springs to a shackle flip. I am switching from Rough Country springs and will hopefully notice a good improvement after I switch over.
