Shop build. HEAT!

Finally got it hung.

I'm sure there are secrets and tricks and the like. I know none of these. Still don't.

Anyway used a tractor to lift it. But said tractor didn't have pallet forks on just hay forks. So pointed the hay forks down and used the backside. That didn't give enough motion so some creative stacking and precarious balancing was in order.

But it worked, and the heater is mounted according to the manufacturer instructions hence my insurance will still cover my shop

:doah::doah: your going to hate that heater up there when its time for all the service . . . but its yours do as you wish to keep the insurance man happy .

and nice job on the lift :waytogo:

were i use to work he was ready to lower his on the tank 4ft less as the heat never dropped much . he even had me hang a old house window aluminum awning on it to direct the air in a downward push to the floor . it helped some but not much . i know you have fans so hope it works better for you .

Yah I know having it up there will be a disadvantage. My ceiling fans move some air. That's half the reason I got em, I knew I wanted to hang the heater up there. The fan on this heater is pretty solid too. In the old shop you could feel it blowing 30 ft away.

The other reason is to free up space. Having the heater with the proper clearances to keep insurance happy on top of the tank was too much.

The other reason I think it will be a non issue for my specific shop is with the nozzle size this is 140,000 btu heater. Most heat calculators put me at needing 60,000 btu based on a 60° rise. So it's pretty oversized.

I have realized a waste oil heater is not a put it in and forget. It requires one to maintain it. And the vast majority of stuff I need to maintain is very easy to get to.

I really wish I could have just gotten a big propane furnace and called it done. But I would have been 2k easy cause I don't have a tank.

Trust me everything in my shop is a compromise. Very little have I done exactly how it would be the best way.

my shop calles for around 78-80k btu but i did a 125k btu unit . screw min spec i say .

and yes install and forget on waste oil = good luck buddy have fun :surepal:

they are fussy but we have talked about that before a few pages back .

and yes we all use what we got / cut a few money pinching corners but in the end most of it works depsite what the real world says .

here is my wood stove mod others have said cant be moving the air flow i say it is . . . but it does :dunno:

took off little 1100 cfm fan combo and did 1800 cfm single fan and then box to make air go threw stove .

It's kind of crazy. What works in one shop in one area works like crap in another area.

Its what I got now. And next year I'll be wiring in a backup electrical heater

Shoot a 1500 watt heater and a single burner Mr. Heater on low warmed the shop up enough in 20 minutes to start melting the snow I forgot to sweep out.

The over insulation has been proving to be just enough

Any info/other pics of that wood stove?

Just checked, and it’s -5F in Afton. That’s an emergency condition, and warrants 2x any BTU and R rating.

Progress is looking great!

Truth! It gets cold here. On the bright side only 3 and a half months of winter left!!!

Although I just checked. All 3 of my weather apps and the national weather service say a bit colder than -5

Other one says -15 but national weather service says -17 too. It's fun when your predicted low is 21° warmer than it currently is

I realize I move slowly than the slowest if humankind. But I occasionally make progress.

Got the chimney all hooked up.

I have another 3 ft section if I have draft problems but it looks like it should work.

Now onto small town issues. Gotta wait till the weekend when we head to the big city to go grab the copper tube I need. Nowhere here has it . Gotta plumb the oil into the heater now
