Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
Only reason I threw the numbers in there is I figured more than just ck5'ers would see it.

So here's what I ended up with... I got an actual fuel tank sealant. It says its good for any fuel type. Then just stick a self tapper through it.

I still don't like it. There's a reason it leaked and no sign of damage. It had to be internal corrosion. Which leaves me not wanting to use this tank OR the old crappy one..

A 31 gallon blazer tank is $95. Guess I'm gonna have to fab some brackets lol.

The height difference is 2". So I'm going to use the sending unit I just bought if the hole is the right size. That way I can save some money at the moment, and still have a good pickup for my mechanical fuel pump setup.

Later I may get the right sending unit and do an in-tank electric pump. It won't be hard to pull the bed again, now that it'll have new bolts.

Hardest part will be making the filler neck.

Sounds better when the beds on. It gives it a mellower low tone..

It runs pretty strong but gets funky at the top. I'm wondering if my stock mechanical just isn't keeping up.
This engine had an aftermarket mechanical (Holley I think) when it was in the bee. But that pump wouldn't work in this truck due to outlet location. So the stock went back on.
Which is why I mentioned going to an electric in-tank later.
And the fact that I want to go FI at some point to kill may off angle issues.

It came from a super nice 86 2wd that had nearly no rust. You can tell from the pics that it's in way better than normal condition. The inside looked the same. :dunno:

But it leaked. ...? Don't get it, not changing it. IF I can fix it. Not sure what I'm doing now. Might just buy the blazer tank and do that now instead of later.

Do it now then you wont have to do it again, just shorten the fuel lines when you shorten the truck.

I rebuilt my gas filler when I shortened Twinkie. It is pretty easy to cut down and weld together. If you have a stock one for a Blazer / Suburban and the truck one and some moderate sheet metal skills making a functioning door in the bed would even work. The other things I have seen people do is just have it go to the back so you like open the tailgate and there it is.

I was thinking about the in the bed method. It may be the way to go since this bed won't be staying long.
With any luck it'll be shortened by this time next year.

Just buy a fuel cell and toss it in the bed
I don't know why everyone likes to put the fuel tank in the bed?
I never have enough room for my stuff in the bed and as long as there is enough space underneath I would always put mine there

To get one with more than 18-20 gallons gets $$$$ quick. And at about 6-7 mpg I want a little more than that lol.

I could see one in the bed for a dedicated play rig like this. Only thing it'll ever have in the back is mud and a spare tire.

I have a 22 gallon I would sell you.
I had it in the back of my Stepside back in the early 2000s so I don't know how well that foam would have held up. I'm guessing it's junk? IDK.

Nah. $95 for a new 31 gallon tank with baffles works for me lol.

To my understanding it's a mud truck.
Mud truck,
1. You want less underneath
2. Who cares your not hauling anything.

Besides, I ordered it this morning lol.
Lol. Not what I would do as far as the fuel cell goes either. But what the hell.

I used the cell because with my 79 I was getting like 5 MPG and I couldnt go anywhere on the stock 13 gallon shortbed tank.
I didn't want to bother with setting up a dual tank system when I didn't have any parts.

I haven't actually checked what this gets because I haven't driven it far enough to matter, plus the speedo doesn't work lol. So I'm just guessing it's worse than the dually which has an accurate speedometer, the same transmission, and the same basic block and heads. It gets 8-11 mpg. This ones bigger tires, higher gears, bore, and cam all suggest it gets S**T mpg :doah:..... But, oh well :waytogo:
:burnout:

spectra prem tank or nothing in my opinion .

and knowing your going short bed conversion its easy to figure out mounts now .

how much gets cut off the rear frame ends = how much min setback you need to have for rear crossmember .

but make sure if running tension style shackles & 56" rear springs you have room or it all or go flip kit and swap the brackets to do the 56" springs and keep 52" bolt holes on the frame .

Spectra premium is what I ordered lol.
I'll have to do some more research again before I do my mounts. I can't remember all that's needed for the shortbed conversion. All I remember is 13" give or take 1" comes out up by the cab, and "some" comes off the back. So I'll have to go back through that.
