shady submitted a new Build:

Shorty the crewcab

I've been wanting to build one of these for a LONG time. I've had one but the PO booty fabbed the chit out of it, and it was all 1/2 ton frame and running gear... I've been in the search for a long time and ran across this one for the right price with the perfect frame to start with from Blazinzuk(Eric) on here.

So plans are good looking (not show quality) DD with short bed conversion, 35" tires, 2-3" lift, eventually injection or LS, 4L80e, and a custom interior.

Read more about this build here...

Vid of it entering my shop.... Watch the trailer,,, that's still attached to the tow rig lol

Currently it has what I believe to be a full stock 454. But theres no telling what may have been done before Eric, then I, got it. It runs pretty rough at lower rpm, but smooths out at about 2k. A full tune up and fuel system clean up/rebuild is in the near future. And if that still hasn't fixed it then it'll probably get the bored/cammed 454 from my Rumble bee build. Then I'll just build this one for the bee when time and money get more plentiful.

It also needs a front axle rebuild before winter. Which kind of scares me and makes me wonder because from what I can see the PO before Eric twisted the pinion shaft in two some how :dunno:. Which I didn't know was possible with a street driven D60. So I'm hoping it didn't lunch the center section in the seal/race area. If so it'll get the axles from the bee too lol. After all, the bee is a toy and this is replacing my current DD so I can sell it.

Original engine was a 292 i6 lol. Has a 250hp 454 from 1973 in it.

Also figured out that the rear 2 wheels are 16.5" and the front 2 are 16". Plus one of the wheels in the bed has a bad center. So im still on the hunt for wheels I guess. Hoping to find enough to make a set of 16" steels so I can save on wheels and run hubcaps at the same time lol.

I'm super happy to finally get started on a Crewcab. And I have the right base to start off of. I'm hoping this build rolls along at a slow but steady pace.. faster would be better lol. But I want to do things as they should be instead of twice, as much as possible.

Well I got a decent score a couple days ago. CL came through with a set of steels with only 1 odd ball, which I have a match to. So I got 4--265/75/16s with decent tread and steels for $50. 1 may have a hole because it's flat, rest have air in em still. Now I just gotta clean them up, paint, and mount them.

I also got to checking lights. Head lights work but I'm not sure if the dimmer switch does.. they blink but but don't appear to get brighter. It was hard to tell by myself in day light though. Turn signals and markers work. But brake lights don't... So that's making me think switch.

Something else I noticed is the drivers side of the bed sits about 3" lower than the passenger side at the rear corner.

I looked into it a little and found the spring pack appears flatter and theres a broken spring in the middle of the pack. I'm hoping that's all it is. I wanted to add zero rates anyway so I'll take that leaf out and the same one on the other side. Then add the zero rates. It won't quite give me the inch I was looking for. But it'll even it up for now I hope.
