yellow trim was 1977 only, or 1975 gmc gentlemen jim. The jim's also had a door speaker (4x10) that was unique to only 75 gmc gentlemen jim, but also offered in the 1980 model year. Kinda odd little options.

Interesting, any pics of the factory door speaker?

There ya go. I dont have a set, but kinda wish i did, they are pretty neat. Some kid on there claims the 6x9s in the bottoms of his doors are stock lol.

Well I'll be darned. I could have had a set of those for free, along with any other parts from that '80 Suburban. It was winter time and I just didn't get around to it though. I assumed they were aftermarket too. I still have the original window sticker, but I don't remember that option being listed on there.

I was wrong, if you read the first link, gmc gentlemen jims were on the kickpanel. Not on the door, but same plastics i think. You should have got them! id love a set. Just to say you had some :D

the 1st pic in post 11, those rims have the veins/ribs closer together than the other wheels i see, the 2nd pic in that post has the slot mags and they look great, i have a set of those in the attic of my dads shop, they came off my 67 mustang & are made of magnesium.

dang, i saw a set of those speaker ''boxes'' in the salvage yard, i assumed they were aftermarket and the truck is now gone, it went to the crusher! if i had known they were a factory option i would have gotten them for my 80 k5 silverado. it has the door pocket on the door panels, does anyone sell those speaker ''boxes''? like LMC or any other parts place? it looks like, w/that speaker box you don't have to cut a hole in the door....right? and the gentleman jim, what did it do w/the vent that is ussually in the kick panel?

Not sure about the gentlemen jim, i knew a guy who had 2 of them, plus 8 other 73-87s, his dad sold them all, including 1 shortbed bligblock truck i beleive, for 45 dollars a piece scrap.:doah:

Ill ask and see if he has a picture of a gentlemen jim setup.

I doubt anyone makes them aftermarket, if you had the measurements you could turn a standard door panel into one i believe. Would have to be a 77-80 style door panel i believe.

my 2 sets of western wheels.

Mine where "western wheels" as well and your 2 set of wheels are ay all time favorites. IIRC western called them turbines....

Did you happen to get SUPER lucky and get 16" or the too typical 16.5"?

Thats the problem with both of those wheels EVERY set in 8 lug I have seen in person ended up being 16.5's. I have been told many times that 16's and even some 8 lug 15's where made, but have yet to come across any other than 16.5's. I quit running 16.5's as they are almost aways a size you have to order rather than being in stock.

I have always admired your truck too by thew way.

yes, w/measurements i can make my door panels correctly, but i can't materialize the speaker box that goes over that hole. i will be on the look out for these...so, 79/80 models only trucks to have them in the door & 75 gmc gentleman jim had them on the kick panel(like i will ever see 1 of the later in the salvage yard)...man such a limited use makes those pretty obsolete and hard to find.

yep i have only ever seen 16.5 size. and mine are both sets 9.75 wide.

i have had them for years on the turbines. the slots about 2 years. but seen them 6+ years ago and asked about them. no was what i got then. and last time i was there he said come get them for free. :eek1:

Sweetk30, the second set looks sweet. Are they suppoesed to have that finish on them, or would they clean up/polish up? I think they would look awesome with a nice polished aluminum finish.

the turbines are super cleaned up / and painted / then mothers mag and aluminum polished the rest.

i have yet to super clean / and polish with mothers the rims. i think thay would look super with the windows painted in black like the others.

how i got them look above. and thay hadnt been on the road for 15+ years.

wait a min, those shown in the last post don't look like the 1's on the 80door panel, those(80 model) appear to be angled upwards, the ones in last post have a different grille pattern & aren't angled...i've seen an angled box similar to that on the center dash speaker, but iirc, it had ''kraco'' on the grille and was wired as a external speaker for a cb.

edit: i've been told 1 of the big 3 had a am/fm radio that also had a cb built into it, anybody know what that radio came in?

yeah chrsyler offered a combo AM/FM/CB/8 track but it kinda sucked at all 4 lol I have one on the shelf at my dads house in MN I'll never use it or sell it its just one of those convo pieces . Kinda like my dual point tach drive. no use for it but really cool.

man I would kill for a set of 8-lug slotted mags :doah:
I have a set of western wheel Slotted six lugs on my stepside there the only reason I dont go one tons on that truck

i would love to have a set of 16'' 8 lug slot mags myself, i love the way they look!

Me too. I think they are an old wife's tale though. Everyone says they've heard of them in 16inch, but nobody seems to have ever seen a set.

Chevywrangler's dad has some on his truck in 8 lug flavor I am just not sure if they are 16 or 16 1/2

I have found a set of 16"turbines but they was 6 lug. Thats a odd size for the era so I still hope the 16" 8 lugs exist HAHAHA.

go drw dana 60 and buy the 6lug conversion parts. as drw 60 is much cheeper. then get a 14ff and buy the 6 lug hubs for it.

now that you say that, a friend, in Duluth actually had a set of 15x10 8 lug slotted mags. I should check if they are still around.
