The engine is in...it fits nice..only two issues so far..
1 - engine tube is gonna hit the alternator with the serpentine on..so that needs to be notched/bent
2- I'm pretty sure they built this frame with a rear mounted radiator in mind now that the motor is in...we looked at it hard and I'm not gonna try to run it in the front..I think it's gonna be less painful to put the radiator in the back. Im gonna drop my winch in there and measure before I make the final decision, but I'm preparing myself. running it in the rear will make some other things easier and I could slope the hood even more.
I'm also taking orders on custom shop broom hood rods..they start at $150 for standard length...ad $50 for a custom cut to size...powder coating to come. first 10 get a limited autograph of anyone you want me to write on there.
I'm also really happy with the way the transfer case turned out too...for taking a chance on this frame and doing a Frankenstein with all these different parts I can't complain at all. I like to think it's all due to the boss level of technical/planning genius I have become but I'm probably just getting lucky. the plan is to tunnel the floor from the back of the transfer case all the way out for the rear driveshaft and then I'm going to fiberglass over the hole with a removable cover. The tunnel will have a thick cap at the front and the harness bars will tie into there, so you can still get into the back from between the seats. Seat mounts will be a "D" shape on each side going from both roll cage pillars.
My kid with the shop mascot. flew in the bay door one day, after a head shot of brake cleaner and a lug nut to the chest he still wouldn't leave. Now he has his own bucket seat and walks around pooping on everything.
Feel free to give the boy grief for the Ford hat and Blazer Bash T-shirt...He dresses himself
to give you an idea of how much room there is not.... Its 19 inches exactly from the top engine cross tube above the water pump to the welded top corner of the winch plate, just to the left of the brass knob on the broom in the 3rd picture.
They both would have to in fit there and there is only room for one....I just got back from the shop...did some measuring for the radiator and propane tanks. The radiators going in the back. It will fit back there with 2 propane tanks and actually look pretty good. putting a big cooler back there is up in the air tho.
Front end is finished welding and the high steer arms are on...just need to mount the ram. back end is also finished welded, as are the links and mounts. throwing paint on everything atm.
ORI's arrived today...so they just need to do the rear upper ORI mounts and set up the ORI's
The truss is fabbed. The rest is chassis unlimited. we decided to move the upper 3 link mount over to the passenger side for overall strength and to free up space on one side for exhaust and such. Hence the truss. theres gonna be a piece that will go over the ram and tie into the Arteck ram mount.
There is ZERO room down the passenger side of the frame to run anything... the side of the205 is like an 1/8 inch off the side of the frame. So moving the top link over worked out well.
I might have to go with a trunion bearing and split the front drive shaft...cause of the wheelbase. we'll see. that would save me having to get the shaft lengthened tho.
