Shrunken Ned...

it was 1230 am..little late to try and start it..have to work today..so wendsday after I pick up the trailer

So here's quick update from yesterday. got all the wiring done. started the motor. motor was 180 out. fixed that and it fired right up. started letting it run/break in while I was topping off tranny/hydro fluid ect.... realized after a bit but not as quick as I wished there was an oil pressure problem (like IT had none). after searching around finally determined the oil pump rod was never installed in the oil pump (it helped when I found the rod in the box of unused gaskets left over from the build) when the motor was built. (the guy who built it is dead..another story) can't put in in from the top, tried till I was ready to scream. dropped the pan to pull the oil pump..pan hits cross member and won't come out. need to cut cross member or pull motor...

It gets better. Go to get my trailer this afternoon.(the one that I had built and was supposed to be ready on the 30th) Guy calls today its here come get it. Go look at it..not trying to be a dick but 2 boards are an absolute joke. One board is twisted so bad its a good half inch above the deck at each end and its obvious the idiot with the screw gun tried to "fix it" by how far the screws are buried in the wood (you cant see the screws). Another board is split a good 3 feet down the deck from the screw hole after the same retard buried the screw in that one. I'm like.. hey are you seeing this? why does the deck on my trailer look like absolute shit and the rest of the decks in the lot look fine???....its your factory and all but I would never let something like this out my door? did you even look at this thing before you called me???? and I'd fire the jerk off who put these boards in. Trailer guys like your right we will fix it but we cant have it done till tuesday morning at the earliest.

that's where I'm at.

Bummer on the motor man. Hope you can get it in without too much wasted time. Hate when shit like this happens.

damn

can't hoist the motor up enough to slide the pan off?

Its to close to call on lifting the motor..because the 203/205 is up so high I have barely any tunnel clearance. I'd hate to go to all that effort and find out it wont go high enough...Its gonna be easier to cut the cross member and make it removable. that way if I ever have to drop the pan again it will be easy. Oh and the alternator took a crap too

Cut the x member. Pulled the pan..no metal in pan..Put the oil pump rod in and got the pan back on. New oil with zinc. On the drill with the priming tool I got 50+ lbs of oil pressure with the drill at half speed...so I might have dodged a bullet.

I'm worried about the part where you say "I tried till I was ready to scream" and then you say "guy who built motor is dead"... :dunno:

scream like in frustration.. I couldn't get the rod to drop in from the top. It didn't help any that I couldn't physically get far enough back to look down the distributor hole and see if the rod was where it needed to be, because of the motor set back and the curve of the firewall.

As far as the dead guy part....dude who built the motor was the shop foreman of a diesel shop where me and a bunch of my friends get our diesels worked on. He raced boats and his son had a k5. He had a twin turbo 454 in his jet boat that was insane. I gave his kid a bunch of my left over k5 stuff when I cleaned out my shop. He had a vortec 350 in the back of the shop and offered to build it for me when he heard I was looking for a motor for the crawler...I took him up on the offer and that motor is in my crawler... that was like 3 years ago now... bout a year and half ago he up and quits the shop on short notice and leaves the state after a bunch of drama with his daughter and "a boy from school" sexually abusing her. At least that's the story he put out there. Turned out the "boy from school" was actually him. When it came time to pay the piper and the law was knocking on his door he put a bullet in his head. Its sad all the way around. I feel for his kids, he destroyed his family. So thats how a dead guy built my motor and why I couldn't call to ask him if he put the oil pump rod in when he built it.

As far as the truck stuff. took the lords day off. On vacation so I got to go to church since I didn't have to work. Of course there was a lesson on keeping the sabbath day holy..figured I needed the all the help I can get...
