My 76 Blazer had these really small mirrors that you couldn't see squat out of. So, I bought some newer style ones from LMC. They are nice and big but they will not stay put. You can tighten down the screws that hold the post under the outside cover but on the freeway, sure enough they start folding up against the door. I've put various materials in between the post and the clamp but to no avail so far. Has anybody put other three point mirrors on, or even some Bronco mirrors? Any other options besides the Chevy stock ones?

I assume by "side window" you mean "side view mirror" :D

I've done a bunch of variations over the years, and my faves so far are the basic three-point, 6x8"? head mirrors:

Easily adjusted, even the used ones I've had stayed tight, and big enough to see without blocking forward vision.

You can prolly get 'em from Monument, if not LMC or the PnP in Newark.

Damnit, typed too fast. Yep, I meant mirrors not windows. I was looking at those but I also like the style that came on my 90 Ford Bronco when I had it. Somebody else in an old thread put on some 96 Ford F-150 mirrors too. I like the fold flat capability of these. But, I also want to be able to tighten them up without having to pull a cover off and make a major production out of it. Do those tighten up easily?

I like the factory mirrors on my 89 blazer. I've been told that all of the aftermarket ones of this type are junk and don't hold adjustment like you mention but the original ones do hold (mine have never moved) and they are true stainless steel.

I ordered a new repro set from classic parts, and it's true that they don't stay where you want em to, but i believe i can tighten up, just haven't had enough time or motivation.

My drivers side one folds back when going down the highway. Haven't had time to tighten it up yet. Maybe this weekend.

I have the 3pt ones like on dremu's blazer on my k20 but thate plastic washers that allowed movement rotted out and now if they get moved the bolt backs out. I was just planning on finding newer doors that had mirrors like on Scotts blazer. But my build is in a completly different stage than yours.

I'm thinking I may just have to explore options for replacing that plastic insert. While I was wheeling a few weeks ago I rummaged around in the tool box and found plumbers tape (flexible metal) and wrapped that around the post. It helped a little, but not much.

Can the post be removed? How about a set screw?

My '90 has the power mirror option. Looks like the ones on the pick-up from those years. You can get them aftermarket now with or with out the power option. These can't be spun around since the are a hard mount that folds in. It locks folded open or folded in.

Bnate was gracious enough to offer up a set he had laying around. However, I ordered up a pair of Ford Bronco style ones that are supposed to be generic enough to fit any truck. I went with black to match the bumpers so we shall see how it works. I'm not keen on drilling new holes in the door but then again, if I went with a basic three point towing mirror I'd have to do that anyway. Pics to follow when complete.

The factory mirrors had a vinyl/plastic sleeve on the end of the mirror shaft this kept the factory mirror from folding in. The aftermarket mirrors I have seen don't have this piece at the folding point. I added a piece of shrink tube to mine and they stay put now.

tightened the Drivers side on mine Saturday. Didn't hold. Smoked it down this morning and so far its staying.

I like the heat shrink idea.

I pulled a pair of mirrors off an early 80's Chevy van. They look great, and stay in place, perhaps a bit too tough. It's not the 3 leg version but the folders with the cover over the mount. Very happy to be rid of the tiny mirrors.

Mine from LMC came with the plastic sleeve but it doesn't do squat. No matter how tight I crank down on the screws, the mirrors still fold back at highway speeds. I'm going to try the new Ford style mirrors and see how it goes. Pics of the van mirros though?

im using the ford style mirrors.they were 20 bucks appiece at the advavnce auto store.they do not fold in at highway speed and are stainless i believe so dont rust.it is nice to fold them in while wheeling and pulling into the garage.i didnt like to drill new holes either, but i didnt have mirrors at all and needed somethin legal.im happy with them.
