Side mirror options besides stock

Can't you get some original mirrors from a junkyard that fit your doors?

As you find ways to tighten them down, just don't get them too tight. You want them to fold in when you hit a tree or your garage door opening, whatever. It's great to be able to reach out and just pull it in when you see you will be close to something. They're just mounted to the sheet metal and would bend up your door...

I believe the LMC ones are simply a copy of the originals. I've talked to some with the OE mirrors who have the same problem. I bought my new ones off of Ebay so when they get here, I will shoot pics and also of the install.

Desert Rat. What kind of mirrors did you end up getting? Any pics? How do you like them? I'm trying to get some new mirrors for my '75 Jimmy and I'm trying to stay away from the 3-point style mirrors. Thanks.

I could have sworn I posted the pics up and now I can't find them. I went with a black pair of Ford copies from a company called Roberk. I ordered them off of ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200383027355. If the link doesn't work, the seller was Tuscola2000. They went on pretty easy the only hassle was I had to mount them in a little different spot than the stock ones. I drilled new holes and used plastic expansion plugs. Then I found these plastic plugs from Lowes, painted them with a spray paint that matches my paint from Duplicolor, and I was good. I can't find the pics so I will shoot some more and post up. I'm very happy with them.

Thanks for the info. I ended up getting the "Kool Vue" reproduction mirrors from Ebay. We'll see what happens.

Here are some pics.

I hope you have better luck with those mirrors than i did years ago. They were fine for a while then they started to get loose and i could never keep them adjusted. I would try to tighten the screws that hold the head to the stud and it just would not stay put.

mine have a nylon sleeve inbetween the mounts and the mirror bracket to keep it tight.should be good for awhile.

I did have to crank down on the three screws where the ball is in the bottom of the mirror that allows it to move around. If you are talking about the one screw that holds it to the bracket, it is kind of small. I am going to throw some blue LocTite on it and if it comes loose when wheeling, then maybe some red. The design is a copy of the Ford mirror so I'm thinking of these turn out to be flimsy, I may just snag some from Pick N Pull from a Bronco. When I had my 90 Bronco the mirrors were flawless and looked just like these.

bump, anyone else have any stories? Anyone try the mirrors from Rockauto, classic auto, LMC, etc.

I have decent OEM mirrors. The passenger side is not convex, which I want a convex one. I can't see crap on that side. Also, at some point one came off another truck, or was painted, or who the hell knows....cause one is chrome and the other painted ugly. :(

I tried 2 sets from LMC on my 71...similar to what Desert Rate posted (w/ 2 attachement points). All were crap. Couldn't keep them adjusted, or they vibrated at highway speeds so I couldn't see.

Ended up going with the 3point mount and put the fish eye on the passenger side. I did use BIG washers inside and out on the door with a thru bolt. Once I installed the 3 points, no more trouble. You can paint the mirrors to match.
