"One thing that worries me is we have been gettin alot of younger (not a big problem) and inexperienced (big problem) poeple on her spewing alot of crap and no real Tech."

You hit the nail on the head there:rolleyes: . I can understand they want to be helpful
and they try to answer with something they heard or seen on tv, but the thread get diverted in trying to correct them. Of corse they try to defend what they heard , and in the meantime the person who started is getting no help.

"It's not often bad advice goes unchallenged here...as frustrating as it is I also don't think it's intentional. So, two things happen, the right advice gets to the right person (eventually) and the guy that gave the 'bad' advice probably learned something"

I see bad advice go unchallenged because;
A.Sometimes it better to ignore it and not detract from the thread any farther
B.They are hard headed and just cant see whats wrong with their advice.

Good luck in trying to change the attitude in the garage,
it's gonna be a big job.

i think this is a good idea. sometimes (more often lately) things get out of hand. this will help control that. i like ck5 being a happy place, hopefully we can keep it that way. i feel that there is nothing wrong w/ disagreeing, but u don't have to be hateful doing it.

good job on the mods part:thumb: :thumb:

sounds like a good plan.. :thumb:
Glad something like this is going into effect.. i think it has been needed for a while.

ps. your truck looks like poo poo.

This is something that was needed. I would hate to see a site this good turn to crap or shut down like NC4X4. I have only been a member for about a month or two but I will have to say I have not found any site (not just gm) that has the help and information that is here. THANKS TO THE MODERATORS FOR DOING A GREAT JOB (wiping the brown off my nose now LOL). Seriously though this is a top site and we all need to thank those responsable.

Works for me. I just hope we can still disagree, respectfully of course, on technical points in the garage, and perhaps on philosphical stuff in the lounge. If it becomes too sterile, I think you might as well dump the lounge and make it strictly a technical site. Despite some ugliness now and again, even the disagreements make for a good lively debate and as a result, draw a crowd. As long as it isn't vindictive and vicious, I think some argument is healthy and enlightening on occasion.

I think the big key is to maintain a level of respect while disagreeing. Spirited discussion is encouraged, as long as it doesn't degrade into mudslinging and name calling.

Nobody want to turn this in Kumbaya.com...

Remember, we haven't changed or added any rules. We're just going to actively enforce the rules that have always been here.

This pertains to the entire site, not just the Garage. I realize all too well how big a job it is going to be, but I can say we're very committed to seeing it through.

Once a few people "take a vacation", I think it might settle down rather quickly until new folks show up and need "educating". ;)

Not mentioning any names here but i think all of us senior CK5er's have a pretty good idea of the first person on that list. :D

i find stuff like this just as bad as anything elce going on.

one of the main this i dislike about the site and make me wonder if i want to renew or not.

Can you clarify, this makes no sense to me...

Insinuations about members being the problem ones, starting threads about people who may have been wrong, and atacking/acusing them.

like that coment " oh we know who it is thay should go first"
give the site a negative fell to it, like there are sides to some stand off or something.

there are many examples

Well Dave,

That may be the type of thing some members will say, yet that is not the way we're approaching this. I am not paying closer attention to any particular member, regardless of what people think. This isn't a popularity contest or a witch hunt.

Rene is right. The moderators do not have a "hit list" of any sort and each situation will be evaluated on it's own merits as objectively as possible.

That there are members and visitors who have a history of causing problem is a simple fact, and it's true of schools, job sites, offices and anywhere groups of people come together. I'm not sure why that would upset you for someone to state the obvious, but it simply has no relevance to the way we are approaching the matter of future disruptions.

I'm sorry you dislike the statement i made, however i did not mention any names nor will i. It happens to be common knowledge amongst us Senior CK5er's. I also did not say the Mods should be paying special attention to certain people which i know they won't be anyhow. The Mods are simply here to keep the peace and uphold any punishment deemed nessasary against ANYONE who violates the rules. Keep up the good work Mods. :waytogo:

I applaude any effort and feel it has been a long time coming. Almost did not renew my membership because of some attitudes. Had to change my outlook in fact to re-up.
Having met personnally with majority of the Mods. I would have to say any action taken will be just and not with out much debate no matter whos involved.

Rene,

I am glad see this post, I was seriously considering not renewing my membership. I have not logged on in months, I was tired of the bickering and back-stabbing. I also applauded the mods and hope you guys can clean things up around here, I hate to waste $25 to renew and end up being the same old stuff all over again.

All those who are voicing support for this effort, remember, we can't do it on our own. We only have a limited amount of time, and with the traffic that CK5 generates these days, I think most of us (though I can only speak for myself) only read a handful of the topics that catch our eye, especially in fast moving forums like the Garage, and I pretty much never go in places like the Lounge, or Body Work, and quite a few others. So when you see problems, you guys need to remember to hit "notify moderator" to make sure we see it. Just because nothing gets done does not mean we condone it, it may just mean we have not noticed it. It never ceases to amaze me how many times I've run across truly pathetic examples of juvenile, playground push fights (the verbal equivalent anyway) that have been going on for hours or days, and not one single "notify moderator" has been issued. But on the other hand, just because "notify" is used doesn't mean that any particular action will be taken, visible or otherwise. What one person find annoying or out of line may not actually be over the line when reviewed, or it may only require a private message to clear things up, kinda like when an officer sees you towing up a steep grade, passing everything else on the road while doing 80ish in a 75, and just shakes a finger at you rather than stopping you and giving a ticket. :o Still quite effective, at least it was for me, and the same thing often (more often than not) works here too, at least up until recently. But one thing you can be sure of, you will not be chastised or looked down upon for using "notify" as long as it's not clearly just to annoy the moderators, which is probably not a good idea… ;)

The best for all of us is to work together to make this site the friendly and helpful community we would like. Key phrase here is, "work together".

A private message with a link to the thread is also quite effective...

Need to find which Moderators are online and which forums they moderate? At the bottom of the main forum index, click on "forum leaders". That will take you here:

I'm not sure a permanent ban after 3 times is really fair. Everyone on this site would be long gone if that had been the long standing rule. I think a 3 day vacation for each offense is plenty. Do you get a portion of your $25 back if you get banned?

If the consequences are known well in advance, then I do think the three steps to a permanent ban are justified. And no there is no partial refund.

Thanks for your input though.

Seriously, 3 times is more than fair. From my experience, most of the moderators have shown that they have more than their fair share of ability to be able to use sound judgement and came up with the proper solution to a problem when it arose.

I personally think that being a moderator is pretty easy, but that is because part of my job requires me to moderate stuff and I've never had a problem doing it; but just like me, they cannot effectively do their job without the support of the community. I've personally used the "Notify" button a few times and it's never failed. I've personally approached moderators here about something and they dealt with the problem fairly and without bias to either party involved. And there is one moderator that saved me from getting axed here. They are a pretty good team and we need to help them do their jobs.

:D :D :D
