Since it is America and all, ill share my thoughts openly.....

Um, I was banned once. I got banned for sticking up for the girls of ck5 (calendar girls) and i almost took a few other members down with me in the process, because they were defending me. It was bigchevy79 bed bob, the guy made comments about my wife and the ck5 girls (your wives) ,,,and i just had to respond to his B.S.. I also posted my phone number a long time ago in the for sale section when i was selling a motor, and he ended up calling me at 1 am talking trash etc. I dealt with him. The guy was a whacko though.

It got out of hand in the garadge and I did respond just like any other husband would do for his family ,, witch i tried hard to not respond, but i just couldnt help myself. The guys was waaay in the wrong and on the red-line, i responded back negative ,to counter his negative and i got banned. I was let in the following day after Steve reveiwed it all ,and noticed the other guy was a complete moron. I personally like the competitive arguing. They all did it to me when i first got here. It was like a break in period i guess.

Does this mean we arent alowed to argue and call eachother asshats, etc anymore? Mabey when we dont agree what the other person has to say?

My point is, with the members i know, or have grown to dislike, (very few) ,,i enjoy a little competitive arguing, even if i dont win the argument. I feel that withought the arguing and slight personal attacks ,, it would be like a bunch of robots answering questions . Kind of bland in a way. I like it to where everyone has there own personality and there own attitude and optinions ,and can feel free to express those withought having to worry. I can see saying stuff about peoples wives, familys, and race being out of line, and physical threats and stuff being out of line, but where does the line get drawn? What goes and what dosent? When i first joined here 2 yrs ago these guys ripped me a new one, called my truck a poser truck etc, etc, but, it gave the place some exitment. And motivation for a plan lol.:haha:

Also, when i said Dirtwarrior should ditch his camel hump heads, and buy a horse and buggy ,,( that way if the buggy goes out, at least then he would still have a freind ).... i enjoyed that!!!! Just like they did to ME when i joined and came in and acted like i knew everything, when i diddnt. (no offense dirtwarrior) :haha:

Also, since ive been banned once, i hope i dont have to have one strike already , (for the inncodent up top),,,i want a clean slate , like new.I also think we should be warned REAL GOOD, before the banning even has to take place. I really missed ck5 , even thought it was for one day.

In addition, for the people who get a strike,, i think it should be right up there by there name for everyone to see, like a dunce hat or something.I also feel that after a while that one strike can be removed eventually, if that person has shown improvement. Ive met some real genuine people on ck5 , some real good freinds that i either see in person once and a while, or talk to on the phone, i would miss the hell out of this place and these family people if anything ever happened. So if i get too squirley, just drop me a PM and ill cut it out, i dont mean any harm , i like to do some minor bashing once in a while ,, just like i got in the beginning, but its all in fun. :)

Again these are just my thoughts, all in all this place is good, and ive found goodness in even the most negative people here at ck5. Later on Bros, Jacob:cool1: :saweet:

I don't feel that publicly 'tagging' offenders is appropriate. As far as I'm concerned you do have a clean slate Jake, and warnings may get dropped after enough time has passed. We haven't really hammered that part out yet.

Policy enforcement sounds very fair. At work when we get "dinged", it goes for one year from the date of filing. That allows slips of the brain with a known "time of forgiveness".

Edit: Argh! I screwed up editing before posting and wound up with a double negative that was not what I intended. I was agreeing with Rene, but that's not how it came out. Fixed below.

I agree, public humiliation often has consequences that are not all in the best interest of the site in general.

And I think the part about things clearing after time will pretty much happen automatically. There is no "permanent record" tracking this, and if you don't just keep screwing things up, it will just automatically fade into obscurity. Even if I specifically remember warning you on 2/3/04 and you start something today, I'm not going to give you a "vacation" unless you leave me no choice. But if that warning was on 2/3/05, I hope you enjoy your time off and use it to gain some perspective… :D

Honesly, I'm loath to add more "paper work" to this effort. It's already a PIA at times to deal with stuff that comes up. And the moderators are already volunteering their time and energy to try to help provide a site you guys can enjoy. For this "privilege", moderators get to listen to all the static from members who often sound like kindergarteners on the play ground. "Waahhhh, He started it!" followed by "Uh uh! Not me, him!" is not far from the reality of it. And lets not forget, "He pushed me!" And all the time we are trying to figure out the best course, are we going to far, not far enough?

And for this we get what?

Our every post securitized by members who love to "get points" by proving the moderator wrong. Playing internet lawyer to try to "take us down a notch" if we make a miss-statement or let something get to us. And... And... Well, I guess that's about it...

This is already a step in the right direction to get things clear and consistent so people know what to expect. If you are causing problems enough for this frequency thing to even be an issue, then frankly, you probably should have been banned sooner. This is an internet site for goodness sakes and there is no need to be starting all these little dramas over trucks. Steve has provided the Lounge for that type of behavior to some extent, but that also has its limits. If you enjoy the dramas and all the snipping, keep it within the bounds in the Lounge or find a site that allows or encourages it, but keep it out of the tech forums PERIOD. That's not what CK5 is about.

snippage.....

What I was taught about arguing is that it's OK to disagree with a person or persons. It is quite another thing to call them names. Perhaps it would be better to call it a debate instead of an argument. "Argument" seems to have an unjustified negative image. A good argu...er debate can bring out points that no one has thot of b4. Once the name calling starts, the usefulness of the thread is lost.

One might say it's OK to call someone you know, and know won't take it wrong, some name. The problem with that, as I see it, is that a new reader won't know that you know each other and could easily misinterpret what was posted. Far be it for me to preach PC-ness. The very thot makes me quiver.
What I'd suggest is that if your friendship with the other person is obvious in the preceeding part of the thread then have at it. If not, and yer determined to do it make sure that who you're taking a swipe at is known to be a friend first.

I've never used the 'notify' button, but I am going to re-evaluate why and when to use it. I think it's the 'tattle-tale' stigma left over from grade school.....

As a newbie, I just wanted to say I appreciate this rule too. The first thread I posted turned into a dog fight. I still got the info I needed, more than enough, infact. And to be fair, it was necessary for some more experienced members to point out why some guys ideas didn't have as much merit as others and I was grateful they did, but it did get out of hand.

Newbie's do ask alot of stupid question, and I'm sure I have or will, but I also put in hours seaching through subjects before I even thinking about asking questions. But it's obvious some people don't. Some things are difficult to search for though since searches have to be for words of at least four letters, and many things around here get shortened or abbreviated for simplicity's sake.

Anyways thanks for all your work and providing a great board for us newbie's to learn from. There may be a few bsers around, but if you hang around long enough you can tell who they are and pick out the useful info from that not so useful, so this is still a great place for newbie's to learn some good tech from those with real experience. I know I've already got my money's worth, and I haven't even used any discounts yet!

Thanks.:D

First off, I would like to thank all the Mods for putting this together and enforcing the rules so we all have a much better place to hang out. I haven't had the time that I once had to spend reading a lot of the posts etc. so I do rely heavily on the Mods here to keep things going, this allows me to work on the next features of the site so we can always move forward as the internet always keeps changing. The next feature that I plan to roll out... well, give me a few days to make sure it will work correctly first. More to come.
Just would like to thank "everyone" that visits CK5 as it is truly unlike most other web sites out there and a special thanks to the Members and Moderators that keep it oiled. and moving along.

Thanks for stepping up. It seems like every thread turns into a 6-page pissing match. It's been really annoying.

TTT...

In light of recent "events", this deserves to be on the first page of "The Garage" again for everyone to read and understand.

:deal:

It may be an idea to duplicate the post in other forums for those who don't visit the garage! Just a thought!:)

Rene,

I am glad see this post, I was seriously considering not renewing my membership. I have not logged on in months, I was tired of the bickering and back-stabbing. I also applauded the mods and hope you guys can clean things up around here, I hate to waste $25 to renew and end up being the same old stuff all over again.

Krennen
Took the words right out of my mouth (keyboard?) ....
