Slampig 700R-4 to 465 swap thread

we just kind of eyeballed mine and cut the hole. you should be able to get it close.

Well I took your advice and just went for it. Got the old brake out and barke with clutch asembly in today. Took the linkage off before so that I could find were my hole will have to be. Glad I did cause the dimples I were looking at werent even close. For anyone doing this swap, I recomend being prepared to loose some insulation. I am going with a bed lined interior so its not a problem. So far the only real pain in the A$$ was removing the column, mainly in part that it was my first time pulling one. This might change as tomorow I plan on putting it back in, which might be worse.

you should be able to find some kind of a rubber boot to seal up around the hole.

pay attention to the brake sender things. not sure what they're called. mine were different but you should have no problems here. actually the steering column for me was easier than gettin the pedals in. just wish i would have used the tilt column before i installed it back in my Blazer

I did mine in the Jimmy and was pretty strait forward as for the hole in the floor board when you think you have it just right and drill it you will have to move it and weld the hole back in so use a hole saw makes that part easier. check out the tech articals there are a lot of good pics there

i just thought of this. i didn't do it but you can make it all hydraulic. it costs more and i was just gonna try and find a wrecked truck or something. think it's a 88-90 1 ton will work. more work but defiantely worth it i think. i'm lookin now.

My problem, I am starting to get impatient myself, and I am just trying to slow myself down. Still cant believe no one has or can go take a pick of where there linkage goes through the floor area.

I could take a picture of my '74 tonight if that would help.
They sell a boot exeactly for sealing everything up there. (I think I got mine from Chevy Duty.... but not sure)

Let me know and I can take pictures tonight.

Here's some pics of mine. Tranny/tcase was from a 76 SWB 4x4, clutch assembly was froma 72 1/2t 2wd and the project was my 90 Burb. Z bar bracket was homemade and bolted to the body. I modified the clutch pedal and reused the original brake pedal assembly, so the column never came out. Linkages were eyeballed until they worked. No method to the madness. Last pic is the top of the clutch pedal.

well the lot of parts I got had the factory boot on the linkage. In my out of order way of doing things, I just got the 700-R4 out about 3 hours ago, which was a lot easier than I though.

Randy92782, It seems that the petal sender things wont be a problem, I just have to adust them a little deeper to make sure they are fully depressed while off the brake.

cabledawg, thank you for the pics, honest, but I unfortunately cant see them cause I cant afford to be a real member at this time. Would appreiatte if you could put up some for all to see.

BigBen, since I havent cut the hole yet, I still could use some pics that I could see.

All the tech articles are awesome on this site, I am just trying to fill in the little things that I noticed werent in them for others. One of the main things I can recomend to people is to either have a good memory and be wiring harness savy, or take a lot of pics of you harnessess on your steering colum, brake petal assembly etc. Also it should go without saying but bag and tag are the nuts and bolts you will be reusing. Anyway I havent done anything spectacular worth really writing about that isnt explained in the tech forum. As of now I have the 700R4 and 208 completely out, Steering colum out, old brake assmebly out and clutch assembly in. All thats left is Torque converter and auto flywheel out, and start installing the clutch, pressure plate, bell housing, 465, 205, and all the linkages. nothing too:doah: it.

alright new question, I have all the bolts holding my flywheel off, I cant seem to pull it off, do I need a puller to get this sucker off or what

VERY carefully use a big flathead screwdriver or flat prybar to work the flexplate of the block. Start on one side and work your way around. Might have to work opposite sides to keep from binding on the crankshaft. Mine was on pretty good, too. I didnt use any wd-40 or similar, just some elbow grease and time. I'll try to repost my pics at lunch, I forgot to do it this past weekend.
