builds an 1987 Blazer with a sm465 to a np205 t case stock cross bar has 5 inches drop now switched from round extension housing to the 8 style 5 inches drop difference I’m wondering if anyone has a link or advice on a crossmember for the transmission

There are a few different factory crossmembers. Sounds like you need the early flat style to match the tall foot adapter. Both later styles (85 & up) used the short foot adapter.
The flat style 73-84:

And the W style 85 and up:

And this later one too:

Can you see the pictures in @cheavyk10 post ?
Best bet is to give us a casting number from your adapter.
The sm465 and np205 has the flat cross member from the factory. K30 might be different.

Just for his clarification in identifying the crossmember the one that we all call “flat” for the long foot mount adapters of 73~84 K5,10 & 20 variety does have a raised section on each side where it attaches to the frame just as that first picture shows - this is the most common one made.

Like Wes said - beware of a K30 crossmember that is truly damn near flat from 77~84 as this will not work.

If your running a figure eight NP205 then you are look’n for the one in that first picture just as the others have said.

Hi,
You might want to check out crossmembers made for heavy-duty swaps; ORD (Offroad Design) has options that fit the SM465 to NP205 setup and could work with the drop difference you mentioned. Alternatively, you could custom-fab or modify a crossmember to accommodate the new setup if an off-the-shelf solution isn’t available.

Thanks

@Tufftruck69 The crossmember in the foreground of this pic is from a K30 and ONLY fits a K30 frame. The crossmember in the background is from a 69-72 however it is basically the same as a 73-84 K10 or K20 crossmember.

ORD does not make a tcase crossmember, they only make an engine crossmember. There is a new tcase crossmember on the market but I can't remember who makes it. (I'll update this when I find it)

It's amazing the ads that pop up on Instagram, it's almost as if my phone was listening when I repeated "square body transfer case crossmember" 4 time. :surepal:

Dirty Dingo Motorsports has a new crossmember they just started advertising HOWEVER while they say it fits a 73-84 truck it appears the intent is to fit 85+ short foot adapters in these trucks (certainly for the LS crowd).
