So how much are square bodies worth?

It's getting a little out of hand around me too. There is a really nice looking 83 k-10 that the guy wants 13k for. It's a 3500.00 truck but again, someone somewhere got online and saw one just like it listed for 20k. I call it fishing for a sucker.

I just renewed my Hagerty Insurance policy and while I was in there I looked at the latest valuations that they base their coverage limits on. This is the valuation for a 1974 Blazer Cheyenne.

Pay particular attention to the bold solid line for the "GOOD" category, as this is where the better than average truck is going to be, and the FAIR condition is probably what you see daily driving. The "Excellent" ones are going to be restorations and the Concours are crazy frame off "every detail" restoration or a mint condition survivor. Look at the jump in values starting last summer....there is some kind of "sea change" happening with these vehicles. They flatlined for 2 out of the last 3 years, but something is happening.

Maybe this explains why we are not finding them in junk yards anymore

are there years between the 73-91 that are more valuable in pricing?
I believe that most will agree that a '91 454/4L80E crew cab K30 would be worth more than other similar trucks. But I think beyond that it may be personal preference. Factory big block 1/2 tons should fetch more. And it seems like the higher optioned ones get slightly more money, even though they may be more maintenance.
I personally liked the '79 as far as round eye trucks, but also like all of the '83 and up 4 headlight trucks. Even the mini-quad.

Just my opinion.

Sure is!

Bought mine in late 2016, didn't see any roads outside of my immediate neighborhood until May 2017...ever since then everybody's wanted one because they see me looking good in mine with my friends!!

:)

73-80 seem to be pulling some dough here more than 81+. They patina here really well and thats in right now bigtime. the 81+ are still mexican work trucks here and will usually be primered and ragged out. The survivor 81+ start at 5 grand easy.

Think a lot of it depends on where you are located as well.. Here in Missouri where I come from squares are almost non existent as DD's.. And the ones that you very rarely will see are rusted beyond repair.. Now if you head out to small towns, there's still quite a few.. But most have been rode hard and put away wet. They just use salt religiously around here and it has definitely taken it's toll throughout the years.

I got my Grandpa special K5 in December of 2013 for $4500.. and have been offered almost double that by two different people.. But I don't think I'll ever let this old girl go.. She's been one hell of a sidekick throughout my youth!

& Here's the old Craigslist ad:D From 4 years ago...

Plus,,I question the tires being original and the seat makes me wonder? My 84 silverado had velour seats and the doors were velour on the inside,,so, not sure what is
going on with this truck? That truck should have a small hub cap with trim ring. My 84 was a half ton, quad shocks up front and rally wheels with trim rings. This is a picture of my new '84 half ton I loved, and the second new chevy half ton I had after starting out farming in 1981. My first was a 1976 solid red custom deluxe, all it had was Air, radio, 350 with power steering with 4spd on the floor, but that was only a 2wd. w/ 3:73 gears, But a lot of fun and great memories.

That 84 you're referencing is a 3/4 ton, the vinyl bench clearly stated on the option sheet. I think it most likely came with steel rims and dog dish hub caps though. The rims on it now are not factory, and the tires are clearly brand new General Grabbers.

I have my doubts about the real story on this truck too though. I can see the ziebart stuff, but it also appears to have been lathered with "Used car lot spooge" underneath and in the engine compartment. Might be a $17K truck IMO.

Looks like the 1973 - 1979 is what hagerty puts the highest and fasted growing values on...but almost all the square bodies are seeing "hockey stick" value increases

No photo, but this one sounds interesting..
.1978 GMC Cheyenne pickup - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive sale

I guess my two trucks are "increasing in value" too, despite not being in pristine condition...I see much worse listed for over 2 grand,so if I ever sell mine,I'm not going to take lowball offers ...can't buy anything like them any better for $1500 + bucks...

Not a bad price for the work done on it. i really like the swing out side of the bed. would like to do that on my dually

Watched a little of Barret Jackson last night, old trucks are the hot sale. I was surprised at the volume of trucks for sale. And at Hugh prices.
