It seems like people have lost their minds, that is just crazy money
 
All I get out of watching these auctions is not how much whatever type of vehicle is "worth"--it's how much the rich (censored) there that are willing to bid, just to out-bid the other guy..its more of a pissing contest,the one with the deepest pockets wins--(and the least brains too,probably--bet half the buyers dont even know squat about the trucks they are buying,they just know they look good)..

I would not pay over 30 grand for any GM truck no matter how nice,if I were a millionaire...what good would it be, if you were reluctant to drive it ,its "too nice" to be used daily,"worked", or left in a parking lot for 5 minutes without someone trying to steal it,vandalize it--who needs that kind of worry..

That is one reason I never wanted a brand new vehicle--I lost enough sleep worrying about my '72 K5 and '69 GTO at the apartment complex I lived in back in the '80's..and they were no real prize either,neither was "mint"..
 
There is no doubt that the prices at these auctions are way overblown, and for the reasons that you mentioned....you have a room filled with people who have made the trip to go there and they have a big bank account and they are ready to buy. I can't bash them for that. But if you put a for sale sign on ANY of those trucks in any other setting, then the real value would be reflected...I do believe that the insurance companies like Hagerty are in the business of knowing vehicle values...so, for GM Squares the legitimate range right now is $3,000 to $38,000 roughly. That's the highest the insurance company is willing to insure one for...so if you bought one for $110,000 I guess you will be going to Lloyds of London to insure it.

I haven't posted any of my posts to upset anyone, since I own a Square I am personally happy to see the value increase. That doesn't mean that there won't be squares not available for under $5000....but time is ticking away, and there are more people on the planet and right now DIY car shows and fix-it-up-yourself has been enjoying a boom. Maybe on the bright side, as the values go up on these the salvage guys will stop crushing them???
 
I think there are dam few left to crush,at least around the area I live in..
Sadly most of the better ones as well as the rotted out not worth restoring ones, all got squashed ,they didn't see any value in keeping them aside unfortunately..they either let them be stripped for parts or just scrapped them whole when the scrap prices went way up some years ago..

You might still stumble across a survivor every so often here,that someone's grandpa or dad owned and got stashed away in a garage or barn,still in decent shape ,but few of them are priced reasonably enough so the average enthusiast has a chance to get them...
