So I ditched my K5 for this ** PICS **56K beware**

what are you using for springs front and back?

The front springs are rear Yota springs... I am going to make a better spring pack using 3 yota main leafs, and then a few other various leafs under that. The rear springs are the Ford 57's that I used to run in my K5... I figured why mess w/ a good thing. I have always loved those 57's, and I haven't seen anyone else with them in a Yota so why not!!!

did you cut up that body yet?

take at least 3 inches off the wheel openings.

bob the rear, truck tailgate and a can back:waytogo:

thanks. I had a feeling thats what you were using in the front but wasn't sure about the rear. how much lift did you get out of that combo? I'm thinking around 3-4" of lift.

It got just a smidge cut off the rear of the rear wheel wells, and that is all that will get cut off. I refuse to EVER bob the back... I would rather have the cargo area than the couple extra degrees of departure angle. I am ok w/ just dragging the back where I need to go.

I am really not sure how much lift I got...? Everything changed soooo much that I don't have anything to judge it off of. The front axle moved forward over 3", the rear axle moved back about 1.5".

Awesome job. It's good to see someone make so much progress in such a short time.Going to something smaller and more road friendly has been crossing my mind more and more here lately.Trailer rigs like I have get pretty deep into your pocket.

... more road friendly...

That is why I have the XZL's

I was going to get some IROK's, but I didn't want to have to buy tires every 10K miles, I wanted a radial that was ACTUALLY 38" tall, not a 38 that is only a 35-36".

I am going to have to sacrafice some off-road capability (probably mostly in the snow) for the street manners, but that is perfectly OK with me for now. I am just about 1/2 chubbed up w/ the idea of just taking off for the hills w/ my kids and doing some economical, reliable exploring

Well, a yota is always been a reliable rig and I have my eye on an 85 4runner with solid axle front. That was last year for Toyota. But this one has a 4 cyclinder diesel. Throw a duel case in that and crawl, crawl, crawl. Now on another note, I have been thinking about taking one of our Trackers and putting yota axles under it and making it a trail only rig to tow behind the Blazer. IMO, Toyota is just the fuel miser version of a K5. Ignore me I like Toyota's. And remember if you start putting Chev gear in the Toyota, you will have a toyoilet

I had an 85 Toyota P/U with 38x12.5x15 Swampers with Lockrights and 5.71 gears w/a 4 banger. It was a great running truck that would get it in the mud. I flipped it, bought an 89 Sub, rebuilt the Yota, lifted the Sub, and then sold the Yota. I'm happy w/my Sub, but damn I miss that Yota!

not meaning to bash your rig but why would you pick a 302 over a 350? nothing against em just curious.

Most likely because they fit better

Cool rig.......just keep some spare axle parts handy:wink1: I run with a couple of built 'yotas on a regular basis, one with 38.5x11 Boggers and one with 37x12.50 MT/R's, and they both break frontends on a regular basis. They eventually fixed the axleshaft problems with bling Longfield joints and chromoly shafts, but then started blowing up differential stuff. One guy lost a 5.29 R&P and the other grendaded a Detroit.

They are shorter, narrower, lighter, and have the distributor in the front. Plus if you run a 88+ they are a MAF system and you can get ALOT of horsepower out of them w/o messing the computer up.

I am gonna stick w/ the 4.10s in the axles because they are stronger than the 5.29's. The front axle will get the 30spline 300M Longfields before summer.... just need that spare $650

So I took it out and played for the first time last weekend... those XZL's suck in the snow. It was POOR snow for wheelin, but all the guys w/ wide tires could get up and float. As soon as I spun a tire I would be screwed and have to get out the winch...

These pics were taken where there was just over 5' of snow
