So I snapped my Crank: Suggestions for a new one.

Eagle cranks are not very good, Scat are better but not by much. I have used Scat cranks in the past with no issues even though they are now China made junk like everything else in this country.
So which cranks do you recommend?

All 350's were internally balanced. as a matter of fact, every production small block chevy except the 400 sbc was internally balanced.

You are absolutely incorrect. ALL SBC's were internally balanced from 1955-1985 THEN 1986-later are ALL externally balanced on the rear only. This is with the 400 SBC being the exception in the pre 1985 version.

Well, I stand corrected. I was under the impression all the non 400's were internally balanced.

I was planning on getting it actually balanced professionaly whenever I get done with all of it. I am running a summit brand dampner.
This one to be exact:

So, would you say that the crank was a defect? Or just a ****ty one from the get-go?

I'm running a serp system. all factory stuff, save for a A/C delete pulley. This has apparently been going on for some time. I drove the truck saturday, it threw and shredded the belt. I drove it a second time, maybe thursday no problems.

For what it's worth, and it will probably make me feel stupid. (LOL) but, I now know why this motor used to vibrate around 1500-1800 RPM. It's done this literally ever since I built it (twice) over the past 2 years.

Who balanced the engine originally?

It was not balanced:o Well, professionaly.

From what I was told/read. I bought a complete rotating assy. Short the balancer, my research told me to get a neutral balance flywheel/balancer and I would be good.

Let me tell you about buying a "balanced" rotating assembly. I built a 496 stroker for Greg about 3 years ago and he bought a "balanced" rotating assembly and i had the forthought to have my balancer person check it for me and guess what, it was almost 400 grams too heavy on the crank counter weights so i had to remove 3/8" from EVERY counter weight on the crank. :yikes: I even have a video clip of that crank swinging in a big lathe as i was removing material.

your problem was you ASSumed it was balenced. :D

never build a motor and think its done unless you know 100% or its all a waste of time.

and why build now when you can get a good create engine with a waranty these days cheeper.

oke dokey. So I'm a tard for not having it balanced.:o

Kinda a dumb question, but do i take the entire motor somewhere to have it balanced? Like as a completed assy? Or just in pieces.

At this point it will be cheaper to fix what is dead. lol

Take the entire rotating assembly - everything that spins on/with the crankshaft. (not the cam or timing chain) The machinist that balanced my 383 even balanced the clutch! 30,000ish miles on a Scat crank, zero vibrations!

this thread is making wonder if I just wasted $650 on an Eagle Rotating assembly.... ****...

I knew I should have bought a crate engine...

LOL. :D I would check your crank over realll good.

I was half alseep when I was posting about me crank last time. My bad, I dunno where I got the forged part.:doah:

Has anybody heard anything about Callie cranks?

I guess they have several different levels of cranks. like quality wise, I was looking at either a dragon slayer, or a compstar.

On the compstar though: Their site says it's stuff is made over-seas, but I'm not sure if it would be any better than the Eagle kit or not.

Anybody have any kind of experience?
