Because 454's are almost as common and boring as 350's, just bigger. Not to mention they are heavy and when you are running a front 10B on it's strength edge....a BBC would pretty much guarantee plenty of 10B breakage.

Depending on your version of legal/illegal?

Get a non-smog K5 vin (clear) and then swap vins and junk the other rig. You should be able to find an old ratty K5 for a couple hundred with clean title.

I know some may say this is wrong, but the upside is only 1 vehicle gets sent to the scrap heap. RJ keeps his rigs in good shape, so he's not a smog yeilding run down junk runner, and he's preserving part of american history.....

I can't tell you how many people do it around here. The funny this is they will let some jalopy with toasted ball-joints, suspension, steering, and brakes pass inspections as long as it passed emissions, but a strictly maintained well working vehicle will get nailed for a wisp of high emissions. Tell me which one is most likely to cause an accident......

the only thing boring about the bigblock is waiting in the chiropractor's office with a sore neck :yikes: smallblocks won't snap your head like a rat! seriously though, what about a newer engine swap like a lt1 or ls1 ? would they pass smog or is a visual thing also?

Tell me about it....and I don't even put out anymore emmissions with my 406 than my old 350 did, infact it's slightly less emmissions!!!!! The problem is it doesn't pass the visual smog test. (yeah, first they stare at it, then probe your pipes :surepal: ) :mad: I have discussed finding a junk early 70's K5 but it's not exactly legal and if you for some reason get caught, is big problems. Honestly, I'd like to try and be legal but if that won't work than I will probably resort that plan you mentioned.

Well, yours is an exception because you have a bling bling multiport kit in yours. Yours has something special and interesting. :D
 
Yes, the older trucks are smog exempt, '74's and earlier if I'm not mistaken. Like I said, I don't like 1st gens or the 70's trucks either, I think they are ugly. I like the square fenders and hedlights of the 80's trucks.

thats your problem, if you got a ubber speaceal moter with ultra cool exaust you cant even hear it.

you can built a good looking truck for cheap, or you can call LMC and order the whole thing new, but you going to pay a million dollers for it.

I can hear it fine. A good tight motor with dual flowmasters is not loud at all inside when you have an overdrive transmission and an interior that isn't gutted.

I've got nearly $3K in my stereo. Whats the big deal? Why does the stereo bother you? I'm only running 1500 watts. Nothing obnoxious.
 
no it dosent BOTHER me i am really not that much into it, i like my tunes as much as the next guy but there are diferent ways to do things.


you can buy a five thousand doller d60 from boyce,

or you could look for a deal, and get a cheap one maybe have to do a total reabuil and have one for a lot less.

I would make your 406 smog legal with the need parts would be my first option.You could put in a 350 stock and " kick it up a notch" with some smog legal parts or change motors every 2 years ..I just saw a NEW GM motor 290 hp 350 ci for 1700.00 at GMPARTSDEPOT.COM...DEAL !! You would have to change the cam ,but it could be done in a weekend.
If you sell it and some kid buys it and spends $2500.00 on a paint job at Macco and it looks SWEET !!! .When he tells everyone that it was stock and he did all of the work ,OUCH , OUCH :mad: Is that is going to hurt just alittle !!!!!I hope your girlfriend doesnt see that .... :ooo: :angry1.
I think you are getting a little lazy with all of the comforts of the Cummins .That isnt a bad thing my eyes ,but daily drivers are boring and lose their "toy abilty" as something that is driven every day.Put your K5 behind a barn and cover it up with a tarp for a few weeks. Pull that puppy out when you summers are 100 +++ at night and cruse it around with no top on !!!! You can't do that with the Cummins !!!!! Better yet !!! Cruse to Twain Heart and go wheeling at Lions Lake or go to Reno for "Hot Augest Nights" Now thats what I am talking about !!!!!! :cool1:

D60's and stereo's are completely different. You can't rebuild speakers or amps. With stereo equipment you get what you pay for almost more than anything else out there. I chose high quality stereo stuff because I have a picky ear, I'm a musician. And yes, I did try and cut corners with the money, I got my three subs and one amp for cost on a favor that was owed to me by a shop employee and bought my big amp slightly used.
 
After this thread, I'm not going to sell it. I have a plan and am going to try it soon. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
