Soft top installed!

Oh yeah. Kudos to you and your wife. My wife is anal about me asking for anything. But I can't blame her with the economy like it is.
I sold some stuff I had sitting up and gathered the money for the topper. But if she'd have known that I was planning on spending over $800 on a part for my Blazer she would have flipped and I can honestly say it's the best thing I've purchased for my Blazer.
No way in the world is she gonna let me get a d60/14bff and bigger tires, so I'm pretty done with it besides small stuff.

My Wife also doesn't mind what I spend on my truck, its literally the only thing I spend money on besides the House so she is glad I have just one real hobby that costs money. She always says I could be spending it on Booze, Gambling, Strippers, or on her best friend(haha). There are soooo many guys out there who blow money on stuff that is BAD for the family or for themselves or on stuff that takes them AWAY from there family like Golfing or other stuff thats focused on just them. I take my 3 sons and wife out camping and fishing or wheeling all the time. So me spending money on the Blazer is just fine by her. I was able to go Full 1 Ton Axles and get my soft top for 700.00 TOTAL!!. Thats just me always looking for that "Deal" to come up.. I scored an 84 1 Ton Crew cab for 600.00, then I took off the 14ff and D60 and re-sold it without axles for 200.00. So 400.00 for Full Tons, the soft top I scored from Craigslist for 300.00!!!. It can be done on the cheap, just might have to wait and wait and then POUNCE when the deal pops.

Wow! $600 for an 84 one ton? That's a sweet find. I keep hoping I'll run into a family member or friend that's just got one sitting up for me to offer them cash on...
 
yeah 600. Dude was advertising 1000.00 and I shot him an E-mail saying "I can be there in 2 hours with 500.00 cash and a trailer to haul it away". He wrote back, " see ya in 2 hours with 600.00 in hand". So I went with 600.00. I looked forever and offered other guys the same deal but no one decided to Bite on it till this guy. Anyway, the crew was in pretty bad shape but the axles, tranny and T case were good. Oh yeah, it even had some 35x13.50 CLAWS on it when I got it. Those are now on my other truck!!.

what truck tailgate did you use? i would like to do the same thing. my auto window gate is so rusted that it may fall off the next time i open it!
 
hows the seal around the tailgate??? gotta say, im finding this a rather appealing option. i was looking at a used civilian hard top to replace mine, but do miss having a soft top truck that i can open up myself. and my tailgate has the dreaded rust cracks in the corner.

I used a Tailgate from an 82-83 Pick up I think. No special year really needed, just take the tailgate and the hardware from the donor vehicle. It took all of 30 minutes for the swap, the longest part being the rusty bolt removal on the blazers stock gate.

The rear of the soft top has a bar that runs through the bottom of the tailgate flap, it clicks into place along the rails that are mounted on the bed sides. Also you put a piece of industrial Velcro patch along the top of the tailgate. So the rear of the softtop seals on the tailgate with a bar that locks into place and then the velcro.

Edit: Though looking back I guess Chaser is the only other guy in this thread that has one installed. Pics Chaser! :deal:

And when your top arrives 2Blazers, you owe us pics as well. :deal:
 
I'm curiuos what it looks like folded down - thanks and any full verts with this top folded down would be great.
 
DANGIT!!! man, this is the only downside to the forums. I gotta start putting money aside for yet ANOTHER upgrade :rolleyes: I was just gonna spend 200-300 bucks on a replacement hardtop, and replacement tailgate. but NOOOOOOO you guys gotta go and give me a hard on for a slick soft top and truck tailgate instead for $850.................

think they'd drop the price if we put together a group buy????
 
And you can even fold it forward and it will sit right on top of the rear seat when it's folded up. In case you need to haul anything. Found that out yesterday when I had to haul a 7.5' couch in the back.
Just fold the back seat up and fold this bundled up top forward and it looks like it was built like that from the factory.
Best investment I've made for it. I got tired of messing with that monster top.

I've only gotten to test it in the weather a few times. It's always parked in the garage.
I mainly just like it cause I don't have to worry about being out and about on a cloudy day without cover.
I have left it outside on a HEAVY rain day down here. But a heavy rain here in Texas doesn't have to be all that much. I ended up getting water in on some of the straps that were stitched on the inside. They do include a seam sealer for tents and stuff to use and I'm sure that will help.

But like I said, I didn't run that seamsealer on it cause I live in TEXAS. We don't get much bad weather down here.
