.... don't think the market is going to get much hotter than it is right now.
Well, …. the question to ask there is what exactly "the market" is. In
the specific case of Chalet #0429 going for $125 grand, the full context of that picture is that is rig alleged never left the ownership if the Chevy dealer it was delivered to in 1976 (he supposedly only put 32k miles on it). The rest of the bidders dropped out after it passed the $47,500 point, and it appears neither of the two remaining bidders were aware that they could have bought this rig for $59,900 at the sellers' place, on at eBay when the sellers listed it there next for $69,900, before they decided to put it in the BaT auction. Neither of those two bidders seemed to express any concern in the BaT comments section about the rig having a used car dealer plate on the back, nor did either ask any tough questions about its mileage, and so far, neither has contacted me at
blazerchalet.com for more info on these rigs in general. The losing bidder there, by the way, is the same guy who won the $112 grand auction for
the supposedly 57 miles '75 Blazer.
It might be safe to say the really big dollars market for a 1-owner perfectly preserved time capsule rig - if any more of those can be found - is now reduced to just one buyer. When it comes to the other 7 or 8 or so Chalets and the one Casa Grande #1457 that have sold for between $17 grand and $35 grand, I'd say that market might only be as big as a dozen or so guys around the country, who were oblivious that they could have bought their identical same rig in the same condition they got it at half the price or less if they had asked me about the rigs before the classic car dealer/flippers got to the rigs. And each of those rigs had
major restoration faults that seriously hurt their collector value.
My thought is that the "market" of buyers willing to drop mega dollars on super spit-shined rigs who display no curiosity of what they are buying is extremely limited, and will grow smaller as more of them take the time to learn something about these. Does anybody believe one of these mega dollar buyers will now snatch up
a rusted one for $48 grand and think he's getting a fabulous bargain?
