Somebody here is tracking Chalets...not sure if this one is accounted for?

Thanks - it's a hobby, keeps me off the streets and out of trouble. Good question on the ones no longer with us. One column in my spreadsheet is for "Destroyed" and so far I have around 10 for total destruction. 20 or so for just the Blazer, and 7 or 8 for just the camper. But there's probably loads more since I only have individual entries (probably with overlaps of 2 entries being the same vehicle) of around 550 of the alleged 1,790 total made. Here, for example, is a photo from 10 years back by a CK5 guy who spotted what was left of Chalet #1270 in a Coolidge AZ junkyard. How many more bit the dust by yard guys who sold off all the steel and didn't want some crusty fiberglass camper unit taking up space?

Many thanks for catching that one's latest relisting! I forget who alerted me to his prior month-old OfferUp ad (which is still online) that's combined with a '79 Jimmy. The objective is always that I can see these ad listings so that I can get screen grabs of them in order to have a permanent paper printout. Sometimes these ads only last just a few hours before the seller takes them down, and I then only end up finding them later as incomplete little snippets in Google search results.

The seller here of this orphaned #1259 camper unit is a guy with lots of cash, and ....... um........... well, he doesn't apparently question any sale prices. While it would be tempting to detail what I know of his various purchases history, I won't, since that would be rather unfair to him. But I first saw this orphaned #1259 camper unit as a filthy raccoon & rodents hotel in an October 2020 Michigan Facebook Marketplace ad for $3000, and I figured that particular seller would be stuck with it forever since nobody in their right mind would pay more than $300 for it, or even half that much. Somehow it ended up in Alabama according to this current seller, and he told me he actually paid that seller $3000 for it. How he found it there is beyond me, perhaps the guy listing it in Michigan is someone based in Alabama who roams the country for barnfind vehicles.

Many thanks for catching that one's latest relisting!
Your welcome!

I really enjoy hearing the thorough history you have captured about these units. So, if I can help in a small way by grabbing screenshots Im happy to help. I have always enjoyed the "unusual" and rare editions. Everyone knows about the "Hemi-'cuda" and the Yenko Camaros and such. But I'm glad some of the truck packages are seeing some light now. Really cool history.

I have a Saturday appointment with the owner of the one in Knoxville. He uses the one I have seen for hunting expeditions. It is all original. He is restoring one in his garage. Yes he has 2. Got this info from his brother next door.

just saw this...
That's the #1259 in post #s 282 / 283 above. Not to discourage you or anyone from posting alerts, there may be elements to them that I miss in the span of just a few days.

Looking forward to seeing that. Might be ones I know of, but more likely not.

Hmmm. About 5 years back, a guy that has a restoration show in White Bluff west of Nashville bought up the 13 Chalet collection that was formerly in Indianapolis (pic below), and the've been selling that pile (which included my #1747) for several years. Some might have stayed local, and one guy working with him in that area already had Casa Grande #0893 and Chalet #1056.

Thanks for that screencapture! Same orphaned #1259 camper unit as the above couple of posts, but in this version the seller included one of his other very recent purchases, also out of Alabama, the full rig Chalet #1677. That photo is of it being loaded up in Alabama (I assume) but the tragedy is that somebody didn't tie down the five interior straps for the pop-up roof, so between there and Colorado, the roof popped up and blew off the rig as it was going down the road. Right after that he bought the roof off the junked out Chalet #0505 in Tulsa (ad for that one is still online: https://www.facebook.com/groups/498031400235633/permalink/3893562714015801/ ), but has since sold #1677 to a guy in Florida who also bought my former Chalet #1747. I found out by sheer random luck via a photos search for "blazer chalet" in FB that the Florida guy had bought Casa Grande #1457, and when I contacted him about that, he told me he had also bought the one in Modesto CA, which I knew was my former rig. Then the guy said he was thinking about buying #1677 and asked me what I knew of it.

I'm not into any Facebook groups at all, but evidently there is some kind of network within it or way of searching through it that enables these guys to find rigs and orphaned camper units for sale that my meager random searches through FB Marketplace don't turn up.

Seller had it listed back in April at that same price, so I guess it wasn't a typo after all. I used Craigslist's temp email address system twice now to ask him what the camper serial number is, and sent him a text to look out for that email, no response yet.

Btw, the seller of the orphaned camper unit I show in my post #292 above has dropped his price to $4000 ..... on a unit that's worth only $400 on a really good day. Must be nice to have loads of extra cash, he told me months back that he bought it for $3000.

Many thanks for snagging that link! This one is Chalet #1412 built in 9/76, it'll go into my paper printout pile for Chalets. That Phoenix seller is a guy I corresponded with when he bought it a year earlier, he really wanted to keep it, but he told me some kind of family situation arose that caused him to move back east and ditch a bunch of stuff quick before the move.

Same one from two posts back for double the price.
Funny thing here is the Phoenix seller told me he sold it to some other Phoenix area guy, who apparently immediately flipped it for who knows what profit to the current Denver seller, who is the same guy who paid $3 grand for his other orphaned Chalet camper unit #1259 that wasn't worth a dime over $300 if even that, considering the filthy "shed-find" shape it was in.
This all gets more comical. The orphaned unit here is the now roofless gutted $1000-priced #0505, previously listed back in April with its roof as just a "make offer" FB Marketplace ad. However, the roof was subsequently bought by the above Denver seller (of #1412) who had previously purchased Chalet #1677 in Alabama, but its original roof blew off the rig while being transported to Denver, whereupon the Denver guy turned right around and flip-saled it to a guy in Edgewater, Florida for who knows what profit despite it being de-roofed and now having an uninstallled replacement roof ........... and the Edgewater, Florida turns out to be the same guy who bought my former Chalet #1747 along with the improperly repainted $30-$40 grand Casa Grande #1457 ..... from a guy who he said claimed it had factory-correct paint despite knowing that it did not.

Man, I wish I could swim in excess cash like some of these buyers do.
