What the hell?
No OD. i can top out at like 50. Maybe.
Dammit.
I might as well put the 2.73 gears back in...

700 r4, 4.10 gears, 35's

Whats the rpm at 50?I got 456 gears a turbo 400 and 35s and at 65 its something like 2200.I could be wrong I don't go on the highway often but the rpm's weren't bad.My speedo said 85 LOL.

Man, you have lost more than OD. If you are redlining the engine at 50 you are in low.

If the engine just will not tach up, make sure you are not in 4wd.

If the gear change was screwed up and different gears got put in the front and rear and you were in 4wd on hard surfaces the binding might stall things out.

Also, if it won't tach up, jack it up, put it in neutral and see if you can rotate the back tires.
Something might be binding inside.

Thats all that I can think of that might cause you to lose that much speed from a gear change.

sounds like you are stuck in 2nd,have it stuck in 4 low,or are runnin doghnut tires.i run in the 70s at 3000 rpm with 4.10 and 35s.

Well at 60 mph its at about 3200rpm. but its in third not OD. And there's no binding or anything. And no front drive shaft until i get the gears put in the front.

And its a 700r4 and a 14bff with 4.10's and 35's

With 4.10's and if your tires were really 35" tall (they're probably a little less), you should be running about 2425 rpm in third according to an online gear calculator I used. I think you must be in a lower gear, or your transmission is slipping like crazy.

Has the speedometer been corrected for the new gears? How do you know how fast you are going? Are you confident in the tach? What kind of torque converter do you have?

Looking at your numbers I can only conclude that you are in 2nd gear. The 700 has a 2nd gear of 1.63.

Im using the speedo on a Garmin Nuvi.
Not sure if its 100% accurate but its close at least

What procedure did you use to set the TV cable?

That adjustment is CRITICAL and if you do it wrong you can burn up the trans in a hurry...

:usaflag:

As i recall there are very specific shift points that need to be achieved when you set the TV cable. Its like 25mph for 1-2 and 35mph for 2-3.

The shift points depend on the governor. I expect this varied over the years, but it was certainly different for gas and diesel. He says he set the TV cable and then backed it off a couple of notches. To me, that sounds like looser, so the shift points would be lower. If the TV cable were too tight, the shift points would be high, but he never complained about having to rev it to the sky to get out of 1st gear. (remember, I think he is in 2nd gear). A broken governor would also raise the shift points, but again, getting out of 1st would be the first problem.

How high does it rev to get out of 1st gear? Are you sure it ever shifts into 3rd? Is it possible that 2nd shift is the torque converting locking?

It's possible the 2-3 valve is stuck or the 3-4 clutch pack is bad.

100% sure.
I ran it through 1 2 3 then in overdrive it does nothing.

What all controls the TC lockup? I think a wire might be frayed or something didn't get hooked up.

Your trans is mad at you because you only ran 4.10s with an OD trans....

Describe exactly how you set the TV cable. It should be pulled all the way loose then you SLOWLY depress the gas pedal to the floor and thats it its adjusted.
