SPG Toolbox...Build

thats all thats on it. "the extender" and a patent #. its old. like OLD. I don't know that I've seen anything like it for sale since I've been paid to be a mechanic.

and as the wrench shaft gets smaller the angle of pull decreases. So it works on lots of sizes.

So, first take on Hanson trays.

WHY THE F do companies still use that impossible sticker glue? These things come with a large (6"x3"?) sticker that wraps from the front around the bottom. I'm the king of being patient pulling stickers off to not leave a residue, or using goof off...but these things were impossible. Spent a solid half hour removing stickers to end with a mediocre result. Frustrating. Goof off also dulls plastic like this, so i used it as needed, but not stoked on the result.

Other than that....they are pricey. $60 for the whole set. A few of the smaller sockets don't fit on the posts, and need to be drilled out. 2 large 3/8" drive metric sockets, and 1 1/2" drive metric socket don't have homes, and there are various missing sockets in what hanson calls a "set", but i expected that.

Besides that....this type of tool organization is all new to me, so we'll see how I like it.

This was the 6 pt craftsman set, so everything is 6 pt. Also came with a couple screw drivers, a number of 6pt wrenches (which are kinda pointless...no pun intended), and a set of nut drivers.

Anxious to hear from Costco on my box.....

Ordered almost 2 wks ago, no update. Estimated delivery 2-3 wks from order....

Darren, you have all the sockets upside down on those trays. The Hansen trays were meant to have the drive end standing up, that's why the "socket guides" are different sizes at the bottom (for the appropriate sized socket).

LOL! I didn't even notice that. Ya they go the other way, you'll find it much better.

I use them too. Heres the top of my road box. Ive got 6 Hansen trays in there plus numerous loose rails. Then still some loose sockets. Never ending battle.

Haha, no way. As I said, not a pro.

Thanks for the tip! They fit much nicer now.

17 past tool box order, on an item said to have a 2-3 week delivery time, and it hasn't even shipped yet

Probably drop ships from the factory in Canada....but still.

Called costco to follow up on it, and they are looking into it:whistle:

Well, guess i spoke too soon.

Box shipped this morning! No tracking info yet, but soon.....

Box shows up Wednesday!

Well, original delivery date has come and gone, but they DID confirm for tomorrow.

Hopefully the guy is nice enough to roll the pallet into my garage, as i have to sneak away from work to meet him, and won't have anyone to help me man handle it off the pallet and into the garage.

Had to run home from work to accept it, so didn't get to play with it much.

Overall, its a nice box. Its SPG's value line, and the drawer runners show that.

But really, its a good looking box. Nice, thick drawers, good overall weight. Seems pretty solid. Really glad i saved the $400+ by not getting the one with the craftsman name!

Only complaint so far is that the only latch for the top is the key. So unless you lock it via key, it doesn't' stay shut.

for a shop box you shouldnt really have a problem with the latch once there is tools in it. atleast with mine i havent. they all sit pretty tight.

That is a nice one.
I like the top part, mine is flat on top and the top compartment is about 4" deep only, but it will stay down without being locked.
I do like the split drawers though, mine have the full width drawers all the way from top to bottom.
But for $650 I am happy with it.

Ok, this is turning into a sickness.

Made some extra $$$ this weekend, so continuing to purchase tools.

Ordered the 8 piece Channel Lock pliers set. First real set of pliers!

And ordered the set of Vice Grips. Never had quality ones before....and for the cost, couldn't' justify not getting the whole set.

These next couple of weeks are going to be like christmas.

New wrenches, pliers, and vise grips. That should complete my major tool buying for this box. Now to fill in the little missing details....

its definatley a sickness...I just ordered new snap ring pliers, 4 piece prybar set, and holesaws...now I want a slide hammer.
