Squarebody CHOP Shop

Finished spreading the gravel this morning. Then, ran back to the old house and grabbed everything that was still there including the hot tub. After unloading, ran one more trip back to the old barn and loaded up my dad's tractor and the Costco garage that sheltered it.

Sunday morning I picked up a new parts truck and another load from the old barn. I also managed to squeeze in a little time organizing the shop and moved the drill press and bandsaw into the location I want them.

This weekend we are expecting flooding over the road in and out of the new place so I made another run from the old barn Monday night as well. Brought home a load of stall mats. It appears everything I have left to move is on the heavy side now...

Another load last night... should only have one left to go tonight if I get this unloaded quickly after work.

Looking at where to place the lift. I think dead center will place a longbed with 5 feet or more front or rear if the truck. I have 33 feet from inside wall to inside wall to work with. This truck is sitting with enough space to open the tailgate next to the door.

Dead center placement means I can route utility connections down the center beam that the shop lights are mounted to as well.

Center side to side is good. Front to back, I like a lot more room at the front. How many times do I work on the tailgate?

This truck is a bit shorter than my extended cab long bed diesel, I figured that one is going to be tight to the door if I center the lift. I'll still have 10 foot to the wall in front with the regular cab long bed

my shop is 28ft deep inside wall to door . the lift is centered minus a inch or 2 . its good for almost all combos i have had on it . crew cab long beds get real tight to the back at the shop door .

my lift has 2 short and 2 long arms . so take this info and plan yours out .

Thanks, I have similar arms so I could probably bias my lift towards the door by 2-3 feet and still have good room.

I rounded up the supplies to anchor and wire in the lift Friday.

I spent a good hour aligning the lift to be centered on the door and set it at 14.5 feet from the door to the column center. This looks like it will leave enough room to walk behind the extended cab longbed if it is on the lift.

Then, I started drilling. But the drill bit seams to be dead halfway through the first hole.

This drill has a normal chuck but the bit was grooved with 4 slots. Tomorrow a friend us leaning me his roto hammer and it should speed things up.

I picked up 3 of the bits on the left tonight. Says it lasts longer with rebar. We shall see.
