Squarebody CHOP Shop

We had a little flooding this last weekend. 3 different river crests hitting moderate flood stage on the first two. The first one was dumping heavy in the hills around me overwhelming the culvert in my driveway so I put the excavator to work and got it flowing better.

At one point the only road into my hood was 5 feet under water.

And this bridge was put in by the county this last summer to replace an undersized culvert. It normally is 6-8 feet between the water and bottom of the bridge.

The snow was a little rough on my Costco garages. I lost one tarp completely (the oldest) and poked holes in the other two getting snow off the tarps. I almost lost a second one from snow falling from the shop roof as it melted.

I was able to patch 2 out of 3 with zip ties and duct tape. Then moved them over a bit to keep the International project tractor covered. Eventually these will need new tarps and I can get the correct replacements for about $80 but these should hold out for at least another year with the patch work.

I bought a plain tarp and moved the bare frame to a different location for the Yanmar. This frame had all the legs bent once already from being tied to a Suburban when my wife moved it so it wasn't worth spending $80 on the correct replacement. So, it was anchored on the corners with T posts and large zip ties used to hold a 12 x 20 tarp in place. The tarp was slightly too wide but a little bailing twine used to hold the tension fixed it.

Wish I could get away with something like that down here.
Fla sun would rot even that canvas in a year or so, but it would not get a chance. First thunderstorm and I'd never see it again. Unless it happened to land on a neighbor's property a few miles away.

And forget about a hurricane.

Its not unusual for regular thunderstorms to have 80mph winds, and I don't even notice. I don't start checking on supports and tiedowns until we are scheduled to get 110+.
Hopefully Michael's 150+ was an outlier.
Was a fun storm while it was here, but the aftermath sucked.................

We get 70+ mph gusts several times a year and the frames on these will handle it if you tie them down to something stout. However, i would not expect them to last long with frequent storms.

Starlink satellite internet?
Yes, up until this, I had my choice between DSL that is slower than dialup or HughesNet with 1min latency, DSL upload speeds, and data caps that run out in 5-10 days in a 30 day cycle.

I knew that's what it was because we're in the same boat here at the office and at home.

Comcast sends us solicitations all the time. We get excited because we think maybe there's a new connection, call them. Nope, we don't service your area.
