Squarebody Mega Cab

Suburban transforms into crew cab short bed
Wow, IFS. Surprisingly little information given for a vehicle with so much going on.

Believe its said was on 01 dmax frame. Lots of work with no detail. I havent gotten any response from seller yet, and he’s read my message 2hrs ago.

First time i think ive actually seen a finished example, most are always still in project/build phase or never get to a semi finished product

Still, it must be stretched, right?

Torsion bad IFS. No thankee.

Well yes and no. Early D-max is a good platform for a tow rig and from a road handling/comfort standpoint, the GMT800 is better than a square. Except now you're doing it in classic style instead of a boring (no offense to anyone...) cat-eye. The thing is way too long for wheeling, so is the lack of SFA really a killer? The rig is awesome in a lot of ways.

Guy said hes got more than $50k and 3 yrs into, but needs to sell because of divorce, so selling cheap. Based on quality, seems like a deal. If I have cash burning hole in my pocket, would be easy button to start with this vs build my own…but whats the fun in that? Would rather spend 2x and build myself lmao

In other news, i’ve been going back and forth on what seats to use. I originally wanted to use 2020+ silverado high country seats front and rear, but with all the tech in modern trucks, i wouldnt be able to get the heated/cooled or power functions to work because they all use signal from computer. PITA, f that.

So i think where I’ve landed is the 01-06 silverado/escalade seats that have the front seat belts integrated (so I can get modern seatbelts without mounting headaches), i will eventually add heat elements and get them recovered with the color i want. For the rears also thinking same generation avalanche/suv bench seats that fold flat, in same design as the square suburbans. This will work perfectly with the suburban floor im working with so i can fold down and have nice flat storage out of weather for trips, if needed. Only negative is those seats dont have integrated seat belts, so I’ll have to address that, but the functionality of folding flat is a plus.

Everything ive seen suggests the 99-06 seats are some of the most comfortable truck seats. Ive read the newer generation seats arent comfortable. I’d hate to spend the coin on the newer seats and them not be comfortable enough. Curious to hear other peoples thoughts on that.

I also looked at the ‘19 honda odyssey second row, which has integrated seat belts, and i think with matching head rests would pair nicely with the escalade/chevy front seats, but they dont fold flat - they are designed to be removed easily, so not completely out of the question, but im leaning towards the chevy rear seats. Again will add heat elements down the line.

Plan is still to use a ‘20+ silverado center console, and will add in all the usb c and outlets and such aftermarket, since none of that will work with a simple power source, again needs signal from computer - lame.

Are you going to modify the floor pan? I used 99-07 seats in my k5 and loved them, but that was mounting on a flat floor, where the suburban kicks up under the front seats.

My 98 suburban has front heated seats, I am sure you can find 99-up with heated seats.

I wish this guy would share some details, at least he sent couple pics. Trying to gather as much info as i can. I’ll see if i can get anything out of him
That is a crew cab roof, so they probably just cut and extended the cab with some flat sheet metal.
