Hoping weather man stays right and is 70 this weekend like there saying!!!! If so out roll's K5 Sunday morning for some quick spray of the front floor. Going to load my tailgate in my civic and take to work to prep in little time here there yada yada as long as it is ready for weekend! I have been waiting for this weather so I will say my prayers.......
I had a insulation pad on the fire wall from factory but was not painted over. There was some crap on front floor boards like a clear sticky coating once pulled up but got that off.
LEAST 1 hour!!!!!!! I waited a hour and 20 mins roughly.
Prep is key once you think your done keep going. also make sure you use adjustable air regulator and set to how you want it to look.
Make sure you have blue shop paper towels, 80 grit sand paper with DA, wires wheels, scotch brite - red, steel wool, lacquer thinner, acetone, tape, paper to tape off very well, plastic to cover big items. Honestly plan for 3 solid days for good Prep Work.
that's probably pretty good for an air-dried.. it's prolly a phosphate primer... I would grind out as much rust as you can, treat if needed, than put the primer on....
second what Ryoken says there. Yes I would recomm the primer with what you seem to be dealing with to get the best lay down of liner. Remember primer does not have to be put on super thick.
Check local for it like Napa. I get stuff in bulk and guys let me make return hassle free. They stopped asking me wtf I was doing with all my weird request and combo's they have seen.
Those of you wondering I used total of 7 bottles but did due it nicely got every where possible, tailgate etc. Will take some more pictures of tailgate area to show that also this weekend and post up.
Post up a brief description of how you sprayed it. Stand in each door to get under the dash? This seems easier than squatting down while spraying. Then run around climb in the back and spray the front and work backwards?
I didn't realize you used 7 bottles. I guess I need to buy more.
I taped up the entire out side of truck paper and plastic, glass inside and out etc very good. I then ran 75 ft air hose with a filter on it to my U-Pol gun. I had my buddy on one side spotting for me on areas I missed or might of over looked. I am 6' tall and slim so my long arms come into play in getting some areas better. I sat my butt on rocker with doors open to do toe board areas and under dash (tape up stuff under dash please, yes it sucks but needed). I sprayed front area first then climbed in the back working from front of it back doing sides 75% and then floor working my way to very back where finished the sides. I ran 55 PSI for air if I remember correctly, always sprayed test pattern on old panel before truck EVEN when switch bottles out!!!!! I would shake bottle after 1/2 way through each one for good mixing purpose.
Wear mask always!!!! Even me as Crazy as I am I would never spray it without a mask!
1 hour wait time is a must!!!!!! Between second coat no cheating or you will screw yourself!
After I sprayed first coat and was waiting on dry time I broke gun down and cleaned it very well as it does start to clog little.
Plan on doing wife's 67 C10 cab bottom here shorty also.
That help any? I am not good at teaching/tell as my choice of words etc I just can do it.
Your going to be nervous at first spray but that is what spare door, metal scrap you test with is for to see how flows, texture, etc.
Oh make sure no other cars around etc does float little in air and can get on other things if not careful. If happens wipe off quick with some thinner or denatured alcohol.
old fender, door, etc could be used. I would ask local junkyard for something that might be damaged but free. I used header panel (front panel to truck bed) that was bad and still laying around for if need again. Nope use step stools etc to reshoot that where my height helps me out, extra eyes from a friend and step stool with 2 steps. Oh I also used a olive primer easy to see where you missed!
