What's "R/P"?That's all been discontinued. I think R/P is only available
More money than I thought. Maybe there is a pitman-only kit? https://www.amazon.com/Edelmann-8522-Steering-Complete-Rebuild/dp/B000DINKJC
Bearing only: https://www.summitracing.com/
I'm looking for a seal but I don't see anything that's specific for my truck. I'll keep looking. Sector shaft is correctYes, pull the belt
R/P was a joke= rack and pinion
I think its called the Sector shaft that has the splines for the pitman arm. If there doesn't seem to be play in that shaft (side to side) the bearing is still good. Find a new seal and replace. I'm not too familiar with pulling these boxes apart but I do know, like others said, you can remove the problem stuff through the top with the pitman arm off. No need to take the box off the frame or open the front cap, just to top cap.
It's called sector shaft or pitman shaft depending on where you look. The repair could probably be done on the truck. There is the mess of oil to deal with, but it looks like you're already thereWhat is the name of that part coming out of the box that the pitman arm connects to with that nut? Is there a seal thats blown in there causing that leak and that part be replaced? Without having to take the steering column out and all that?
. Removing the steering gear doesn't require the column to be removed as some manuals suggest. This was just discussed here in the last couple of weeks.I will try and tap it back in later today. A mallet should work.Years ago, I had that seal blow out and make a hell of a mess. My old brain isn't remembering if the seal was salvageable or I found one. But I do remember just tapping it back in, and it's held for years now.
I believe he meant he only had to tap the new one in, but I could be wrong.I will try and tap it back in later today. A mallet should work.
Does the tire need to come off when doing this?I believe he meant he only had to tap the new one in, but I could be wrong.
These seals usually get brittle and sometimes lose a chunk, that's how they leak that much.
I have had good success replacing only the seal, even on my freightliner big rig
It depends on how much access you have.Does the tire need to come off when doing this?
