Steering box is shot

Agreed , first and second thread rings don’t look in the best of shape.
A proper thread file might be able to help with some patience.
I've been doing that. I guess I need to do it some more. I have the thread repair nut as well. What would be better, thread file or thread repair nut?

It is getting better as the nut went further than previous tries.

Can the first thread be cut off if needed with hacksaw or something?

And yes I screwed up the threads by accident and inexperience hammering in the new seals. My measurement with the driver socket was off.

No leave that alone

Try cleaning the shaft and the nut threads w a wire brush, then douche them good w brake clean, then compressed air, then a bit of oil.

The best thing is a split die that you assemble up on the good thread, then back it off to clean the damaged areas.
I saw those but were a bit pricey. I got the one that goes up the threads. I may have to juts get one if I can't file the threads good enough.

Is there a split die you recommend? All the ones I've seen are out of stock.

Sorry, I don't know. There are some "Hail Mary" approaches like running the nut on with an impact (to see what happens) or cutting the end of the threads off and tapering with a grinding wheel, but the consequences can be grave.

Hopefully somebody else can recommend or loan a split die.

Worst case is sourcing a new pitman shaft.

Depends on the springs. But in your case anything to spin it works
Otherwise pull the box

I've been filing for what seems likes days and I don't think I'm making progress. No dice finding a split die anywhere in stock. The round one I have doesn't even engage the threads or I'm not using it right.. the hex does but not well. And I can't tell it's lined up properly to dig in with it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to get this damn c10 driving again.

Can any link a new pitman arm shaft?

Or should I just make it thread on?

At this point I need to ask, are the threads in the nut the same as the shaft? Nut threads undamaged?
