Steve’s 66 chevelle

I haven’t dug super deep into the math yet , but preliminary thinking is 3:73 or 4:11.

Mine gets through the gears pretty fast w/ 4.10s

I’m thinking a stout 383 will feel the same, especially at lower elevation

Guess I should specify I’m on a 27” tire

Numerically puts me at 4.11 on 27” same as a 4.26 against a 28” tire

Admittedly my math was based on trap speed at the end of the 1/4 mile. A 120 mph trap would be at 6200 rpm with 4.30's. That maybe leaves a little on the table. I think the 389 is good for 6500 if need be. Cruise rpm would be 2400 ish at 70 mph with the TKX 5 speed's 0.68 OD ratio.

I also think 120 mph trap is optimistic, so there's even more fudge factor. Leaves a little room to grow...

So haven’t done much on this since summer with everything going on in life. Decided to work on it today , got the fuel tank drained and removed again then trimmed up the center floor piece.
Need to drill the holes for spot welding it to floor cross members, then go to town welding and grinding.
Then I’ll get the new fuel tank assembled and put in.IMG_5229.jpeg

Funny story (to me). I bought my 9" through Quick Performance. Fabbed housing, 35 spline alloy axles, Nodular housing, daytona billet bearing support, billet 1350 yoke, Detroit locker and 4.30 gears. Thing of beauty, I was stoked to say the least and it wasn't cheap (for me). Center section showed up in a green 5 gallon bucket. OK, it was effective...but I have to admit I instantly lost my hardon. :yikes::haha:
