Story of two '72 K5's build

gotta be kidding me, i just went to Odum's Junk Yard and picked up some rollers for an amount of money i would rather not talk about.

Thanks for the offer, but i now have some overpriced rollers that are nicer than i wanted sitting in my driveway right next to the old 350, rollbar, core supprt and other random crap that wont fit in the garage.

I think our wifes feel the same pain

that sucks. I rarely check in to the 1st gen stuff here, but was bored today. We've got a tight crew around J'ville, make sure you ask around before grabbin that stuff.

At one time I had a 3/4 ton frame and axles and a non running cucv in our back yard. As we rolled the cucv off the trailer, Tim prounced it, "Erin's new yard gnome" You can imagine the timeline I was given for that tear down.

Question...

Will swapping 56" springs into my rear end raise the rear of the vehicle at all? And how bad will it affect my shackle angle? (I have stock springs with ORD flip and ORD HD schackles)

I really like the idea of the added flexyness of the 56" rears and hoping it might raise the rear an inch or 2 which would solve the rear sag problem i am sure to have.

iirc, you shouldn't gain any lift, it's just longer... and you would have to flip your shackle flip around...

throw a zero rate in for your inch, than you have the option to move the axle fore or back...

Here is anouther pic of the ghetto/booty Fab job the PO did with his winchplate and PTO cutout on my crossmember...

Still waiting on the U-bolt reversal stuff for the 14bolt from DIY and also the front u-bolts from ORD.

Also found a set of 56" springs i will pick up this weekend and ordered a some 6" HD shackles from ORD to replace the 4.5" ones i currently have. Hopefuly this give me an inch more lift and take care of any saggy butt.

Thanks man,

Well i woke up today ready to get things going, i wanted to get the frame topcoated in the morning so i could instal the corssmember and engine in the evening BUT.....

A rainstorm has decided that was not a good idea.

Looking good. The wife must be pretty impressed now that it lost it's earth tones. How'd the Rust Bullet application go? How many coats and how much did you use on the frame?

The rust bullet application went ok...You gotta stir it ALOT, The stuff gets really thick if you leave it out. I would pour some into a tray and brush it on but it would start to get real thick quick.

The RustBullet application on my hair and skin?? That went amazing, my legs and hair should be good against rust for a long time.

So i may be copying a certain ramjet 502 owning somebody on this board in my choice of frame color...I decided for asthetic reasons to paint a coat of that cast iron duplicolor engine enamel over the black shell, and its looking pretty sweet so far. I may also have completely copied him by painting the crossmember the same color and clearcoating it too.

Pics tommorow when its all done. I just couldnt help myself...it looked soooo nice in his thread.

Engine envy....

And now paint envy??

When WILL it end, oh, when will it end?:eek1:

How about pics of your new personal makeover? I hear that stuff will not come off skin for a LONG time... I prepared- bought one of those cheap lil paint suits, heh.

it will come off for the most part, you can scrape it off with your nails or a kitchen sothbright pad. there are still tons of small specks all over. As far as hair you just have to wait unitl it dries and then start pulling, luckily i was a t a cookout and was drinking so i didnt really feel the pain from pulling out my own hair.

Ahh yes...funny funny..:haha:I am so glad i am not one of those Super Moto vated Marines or as we like to call them Motard's Although very short by normal people standards and still having to get it cut every weekend i like to think after 7yrs i have perfected the art of pushing the hair to its max length while still being with reg's. If for nothing else than to piss some people off.

Anyway...
So i get the crossmember in and engine bolted up and head out to the place where my transmision was being rebuilt to pick up my rebuilt 350 and 205 with new seals and he isnt there, he wont be back until monday. I was going to do the whole deal at once so i wouldnt have to leave the engine sitting there on the mounts alone but looks like it is going to stay there until monday.
