Story of two '72 K5's build

Hard to tell in the pic with it on the ground. Can you get a better pic of it? You usually shoot for parallel to the ground. I have a raised steering arm and a 2" drop pitman on my 67' that has a 6" lift.

Had a bunch of those tiny issues that are simple, but a huge PIA. Did manage to get her on the road and she drives great. Alignment is bad, but no wobble, Just a crooked steering wheel. Because of the steeper driveshaft angle the H-pipe (that the PO had run under the shaft) is maybe 1/4" from the driveshaft. The Mufflers are now preventing me from installing the rear shocks and I cut off the exhuast at the gas tank as the pipe sat on the 56" springs. Only major thing left is to get the new spring perches welded in to move the rear end back 1.5" Was thinking of Zero rates after that also, But i like the ride height the way it is like this.

Taking it monday for alignment and exhaust, But the 35's are mounted.

Bouncy as hell and crooked, but drives great and looks great.

Both my trucks on the way to get the 35's mounted

Gaawwwd daaaam....filling up two full sizes at the same time...:eek1:Ouch

Truck looks great Dave! Glad you got it going so quick:waytogo:

Its rather depressing that everysingle time i fill up the Tahoe i hit the $75 limit on the pump and have to restart a second transaction to fill the rest.

Thankfuly, the Blazer tank is absolutely TINY and does not hurt near as bad.

I hear that. I always feel bad for my dad with the 3/4 ton burb.

What's the price of gas by you now? It's like $4.15 out here last I looked. :doah:

$3.38 right now...not too too bad, especialy when you think of CA and the likes.

VA has much cheaper Gas. Out of all the Southern states, NC has the highest Gas tax, while VA has the lowest.

That's not too bad (relatively speaking). I can't wait until we move out of here with the crazy cost of everything. Get back to reality for a bit.

looks good man! those are the same tires I have. I know you aren't supposed to pick tires based on road noise, but I did. :D they are nice and quiet for a big tire.

Sold the Tons for 1800. Will not go over 35's for a while and this is more of a mild wheeler, camping, fishing, etc...When these 35's wear out I am thinking of going Tons...well 3/4, Probably 14bff rear and 8-lug hubs on the D44.

Good for you! :waytogo:

While the majority of us are suffering from "upgrade fever", you'll be out there actually driving and enjoying your 1st Gen! :waytogo:

You've got a nice moderate tire size there, so I don't ever see a need for a D60 up front. Maybe a few chromo parts in a D44 and you'd be set.

Hurry up and pull that top..... get a few shots topless and enjoy some nice Autumn drives before the real cold weather sets in. Bring the dogs, get some pumpkins....look at the changing foliage. :thumb:

Probably not in the cards this year...Only a week left of my break between phases of this "school" Then its back to not existing until April. But April in NC is a good time to go soft top, so It should work out.

Problem number one after shakedown weekend.

Realzing your brakes do not work while doing 65 on the highway on your way to work monday morning :doah:

I had been a bit skeptical of my flare job on the rear hardline that runs from the front and connects to the rear soft line. But when i bled them there was no leak and after Saturday and Sundays drives around town there was no evidence of a leak and the brakes worked fine.

Well, either it leaked slowly over the weekend or all at once thismorning. Either way, I couldnt stop for my turn off the highway and was lucky enough the light was green so i could coast to a turnaround and make it to the autoparts store. Had enough brake preasure that it would stop in neautral, but the brakes couldnt hold the truck if it was in gear. So I went slow, used downshifting and coasting and got to the parts store to find an empty booster. Put some fluid in it, and as i was dropping it off for alignment, i asked them to go ahead and re-flare the line.

That sure could have went WAY worse than it did:doah:

Took her out for a spin down a fire break/power line cut today. Nothing fancy at all, Still not running a front driveshaft so everything was 2wd. Mainly just doing some more shake down, checking clearance and having fun.

Good thing is that despite the axle sitting too far forward due to the shackle flip and 56"s The axle moves backwards when the springs compress and the tire tucks perfectly into the wheelwell when flexed.
