Stranded...waiting on a flatbed

You said water is running like crazy. Maybe circulating too fast? The cheapest fix I could think of is thermostat? I'm not a mechanic, I just work on stuff. I had a similar issue on a 312 I had in hs.

In my climate, I could actually take the thermostat out and leave it out, unless that's a bad idea

Yes,.it is a bad idea...removing the thermostat completely can cause overheating too, because the water flows too fast thru the radiator and doesn't have a chance to cool off enough..
Also it will take longer to warm up after a cold start, which can lead to oil dilution & sludge and poor fuel economy..

Guess it can't hurt to change the thermostat too...maybe go with a 180*?

Moving the water through the system faster cools better, period.

Thermostats are good in any climate, they're not built to be a restriction they're in the system to make the engine run at the temperature that they're meant to run at. Not that some engines can't get away without one, but if you have overheating problems, a properly operating thermostat isn't the problem.

new severe duty fan clutch is going in today, will test the distributor, but the new ACDelco stuff is going in anyway.

Module is in and fan clutch is in...it has spark but it is running rough as crap.

I tried to use the spark tester but my new plug wires just cracked in half at the boot

With the engine overheating and the module frying I am guessing that it is likely that a spark spug or two no longer work the way they should?

Should be fine. Imo.
Pull them out, check the coloring wire brush them. Check them and put the back in and run them. Unless they don't work with you test them.

If a spark plug wire cracked at the boot you may have a problem there. Wait till dark. Then pop the hood and run it. See if you see any little Sparks anywhere. It May be jumping to ground in a few places

It gets so hot there where the exhaust manifold is so close to the plug

I don't know yet...I didn't feel like pushing it back into the garage if I broke more wires

Im gonna get a cheap set of wires at oreillys and then remove the plugs tomorrow. I will use the cheap set as a backup in case more are bad. The set I have on there is AC Delco and they we pretty good quality

Good quality wires, and stock manifolds shouldn't burn your boots.

Last burnt boots I had were due to my plugs ceramic separating from the metal and fire getting by.... That's probably rare though lol..

Could be your manifold is getting hotter than it should some how. :dunno: Timing off, bad valve seats, etc.

Oh, and with the new fan clutch it stayed at exactly the halfway point on the temperature gauge and I checked the water outlet with one of those thermal guns and it registered almost a constant 195 degrees.
BUT, one time the gauge flicked up to 3/4 and then flicked back to 1/2...I freaked out...it has to be a wire or something that made it do that. Maybe the temperature sending wire is loose or I got a ground??

It is blowing some black soot when I stomp on it, but I also have a lot of fuel cleaner in the tank
