StucK5y's Misc. Questions and Build Thread

Got my soft top ordered this morning and they said it should be here on Thursday! So I have a question for you guys. I have been doing some research on here and around the web but I am unable to find the answer I'm looking for. What years and models of pickups have direct swap tailgates for my 88 blazer? Looking to get rid of the heavy glass one. Also going to reinstall the rear seat today or tomorrow and get a finished picture. Just waiting on the seat-belts to come in. Thanks in advance! I should have the top on by this weekend and pictures up soon after as long as the rain holds off long enough.

Do you get ice or snow in Vancouver? If so, keep the hardtop and current tailgate for winter. I've and soft tops don't like each other, my rear window on my soft top cracked last year in the ice. As much as I hate my hard top, it's back on for the winter... Plus, I figure I'm extending the number of years the soft top will last by not being exposed to as many UV rays from the sun!

Thanks for the heads up smier! We actually don't get that much snow or ice in these parts. I think it snowed like 2 days last year, lol. I don't have room to store the hard top either. Plus, the seals are shot so I would have to get new ones if I were to be taking it on and off. On another not, I just got back from an exhaust shop in Vancouver. I had them run true duals with glasspacks, no cats (Shhh! haha), and have them exiting before the rear tires. Sounds great! I like my trucks just like I like my quads, LOUD! I'll snap some pics tomorrow. Should be getting my 60" Hi-Lift extreme in the mail tomorrow, and my soft top in on Thursday!

You will love the soft top!!! I agree the hard top is a pain to store unless you can hoist it up to your garage ceiling like some have done. The seal for the softtopper works perfectly with the hardtop, just remove the seal and it's glue remnants from the hard top and call it a day, for the bed rail seals, just use regular truck cap seals you can find at any hardware store. The rear window seal is another story, but thankfully mine is in good shape still.

Thanks for the heads up about the seal, smier. You gave me something to think about, haha. But most likely the old top will be going away due to storage reasons. Anyway, I was having a throttle issue where the truck felt like it was going to die at stoplights but idled fine in neutral and park. Went ahead and replaced the plugs, wires, rotor and cap, and the little box under the distributer cap (ICM I think it was called), and it seems to have fixed my issue, all thanks to an 11 year old thread on CK5 for the help! :woot:

So would anybody like to take my blazers hard top off my hands for the awesomely low sale price of $0 this weekend? Free to whoever wants it! I'll post it up in the classifieds when it is removed. Otherwise, it's off to the dump.

Got my Hi-Lift in today so I will work on fabbing up a mount for it. I'm going to install it on the inside wall of the bed with some brackets. I found a thread on here with some nifty brackets made of bent steel, so I will probably just do something along those lines. Also found a couple of used 35" BFG Mts on CL for $50, just working on setting up a meeting time with the seller. My truck came with 2 used BFGs along with another set of rims so I can finally get rid of the 32s and ugly chrome rims. Probably just use them as spares.

First shot is how my 88 started it's day yesterday...

Then threw on some upgraded shoes with some 35" BFG MTs and got rid of the nasty chrome wheels...

Lastly here is a picture of how I have the exhaust exiting...
